Thanks. I am just waiting for Arctic Silver 5 to arrive. Everything else I have.

I am just sticking with Coolermaster Aero 7+ right now. I got it for 27 bucks (that was a rip-off)

Will get better cooling after I build this rig

I know this may sound like a stupid question, but on the Steppings list are the steppings on the LEFT side the better steppings, or is it the steppings all the way to the RIGHT? I searched the whole forum and didn't find a definitive answer either way. Thanks

AIUAA < AQUCA < AQXCA < AQXDA < AQXEA < AQZEA < AQXFA < AQFZA < AQYFA < AQZFA

The < means that on the right is greater than the left... so the ones on the right are better.

now i understand, thank you :)

Okay, let's lay this to bed for the last time: What are people generally concluding about the 9 / F / Y / Z debate on Bartons? Which is better? I've heard Y, I've heard F, maybe even Z . . . never 9 . . .

I've added a link to a guide on how to set the multiplier on locked AMD's ;) . Hope that'll help you all.

Well anyway, I received my KIXIB 1700+ from newegg today, week 39, so it is locked. I proceeded to run my FSB up (didn't expect much because I have PC2700), I got it all the way to 198fsb at 11x (around 2167mhz), I tried booting with 210fsb (lol), which was 2314mhz at 1.6v. It did boot, but couldn't get into windows (I am thinking my ram). This processor is really nice, almost 2200mhz at 1.6v and maybe more if you have good ram. Its amazing, I am overclocking it this much, and its still running at 82F idle (my tornado is running at 2800rpm fan controlled, very silent too).

If there is a way to unlock this baby, I will be cruising.

i thought the 1700+ was unlockable

I dunno, but this KIXIB is locked (ASUS a7n8x, tried other multis than 11x, and it just kept it at 11x)

Umm.. I have a 2500+ with stepping AQZFA..

According to the charts it's supposed to be a good overclocker.. but I can't even manage to reach 3200+ speeds without modifying the voltage.. even with a 1.75v I can't seem to get 2.2ghz stable.

Is it just the fact that my cpu plainly suxs? :(

Other stats:

NF7-S v2
Stock HSF (might replace it)
2 x 512Mb Kingmax DDR400 RAM (could be a limitation - but its on weak latencies so it shouldn't be a limitation..)

What are your temps?

5atanic:

I also just got an AQZFA OEM from monarchcomputers. Couldn't make 3200+, only 2.0ghz... :(

My AQYFA, on the other hand, can make 2.3ghz no problem with stock! Gets stuck at 2508mhz when running Sandra... gonna get a REAL hs and see how much I can get it up! :)

I just got a 2200+ and its steppings are RIRGA, anyone know how good of an oc i can get off this?

5atanic
01-11-2004, 03:50 AM
Ahh my temps are fairly high, on full load and on a hot day (summer down here) - it can go to around 52c (55-57c @ 2.1ghz).

Well I'm using stock HSF so dat could be a possible reason, so I might replace it with a better cooling system.. I just hope the cpu o/c justifies the price :)

i got a 2400+ thats a weak overclocker:

AXDA2400DKV3C
AIUHB
0247XPAW

the chart says that it should be pretty good, but i cant get it very far (see sig)

The chart is a general trend, its not a rule that all chips will follow.

I cant raise my multiplier to 13 its already at 12.5 if i change it to 13 and use a specs program it says my multiplier is 5, and I read somewhere I forgot where, but they said that they made 5 and 13 the same and you have to mess with it to get it to be 13... Is this true? can anyone help me with this?

onewecallgod
01-26-2004, 07:17 AM
what does it say the speed of the cpu is?

i dont understand why people keep asking "is this locked or not?" cuz just plug the **** thing in and if the multi doesnt change then its locked, simple as that. or is there something i dont understand about this issue?

igbeserk
01-26-2004, 10:26 AM
no...... i can change my multiplier i realize that now that means it unlocked but i cant turn it up to 13 well i can but 13 is exactly the same as 5 thats the whole problem cuz the more u increse it the more the cpu increase 11 (2500) 11.5 (2600) 12 (2700) 12.5 (2800) 13 (3000) but when i change it to 13 it doesnt change to a 3000 it changes to a 2500, and when i use programs like cpu z my multiplier on there is read as x5 meaning that 13 must be locked or something or they wont let you use it. its reads as a x5 multiplier and im trying to see how you resolve this problem...

It would help if you write all your specs in a sig (User Profile page) so that we know what boards, etc.. your using. If you want the upper register of multipliers you will probably have to modify some bridges on the CPU itself (I forget which bridge). If you do some searching here you should be able to find the info you need.

Hiya all,
Im a new inductee to OC'ing and i just recieved my upgrade.
I bought a 2500+ Barton but i cant find the stepping listed on this FAQ The Specs are:

AXDA25000KV4D Z378827L30016
IQYFA0350RPMW @ @ 1999 AMD

I have seen the AQYFA on the list but not the I and it is definately an I. Any ideas as to the overclockability? I'll be runing it with an Abit NF7-S Rev 2 and 512 MB of Corsair XMS.

Thanks Much
