I've added a link to a guide on how to set the multiplier on locked AMD's ;) . Hope that'll help you all.

I bought a barton 2500 last october, and i didnt check the steppings (because i knew nothing about overclocking back then :p).

But now i am verry annoyed by its inability to overclock, but im not taking off my heatshink, and cleaning the paste just to see the steppings...

Anyways, it is unlocked. The best I have done was 2100mhz at 10.5x200@1.8v. Thats not very good. Especially since i had to up the voltages substantially just to reach that. Best I can do without touching the voltages is 2000mhz, 10x200. If i try 11x200 (my ultimate goal), it simply wont post, and i have to reset my cmos.

I was wondering is any of the early bartons (since that probably what i have) were bad overclockers. Or could it just be me? or something else in my computer?

specs:
barton 2500
asus a7n8x-x

It's probably the mobo holding you back.

How so? AFAIK, the mobo is 200fsb ready, and can take a 3200.

I can do 10.5x200, but not 11x200 (which is the same as a 3200).

Hey Guys, Just found your forum on a search for AMD Steppings and am very impressed.

I am looking at getting a second hand 2600+ Barton and I need to find out if it is one of the locked ones or not. Hope you can help.

Steppings are:
AQZFA 0341 VPMW

This specific one was not on the list at the start of the thread.

There is a good chance that it is, since it's week 41.

Based on the AQFZA stepping would you still suggest buying the cpu for 2/3 of the cost of a new 2500+ or 2600+ Athlon XP Thouroughbred?

What type of fsb is this chip capable of sustaining on air cooling?

Go for a Mobile XP. Gaurenteed unlocked and overclock higher than the desktop Bartons.

ok, so i like this post very much, what can i say? it's wonderful
now, i have a question,
how far do you think a kiuhb 1700+ could go?
i got it up to 2430mhz with air cooling(gigabyte pcu31vh)
do you think it could go higher?

sys properties
abit nf7 s v2.0
2*128 mb ddr 400
400W psu+350W psu

I've been reading this Thread for so long my eyes hurt
Here is my info 2500+
AXDA2500Kv4D
T854987D41444
Kqyha0415upmw

with keeping V-core and stuff at stock i was able to rasie the FSB to 200. the chip is running at 3200 speeds (2.2Ghz) and is prime stable (over 12 hours)
with stock ooling max temp was 52C
with a new fan and heatsink it at about 49C

i guess the new KQYHA is a better overclocker then others........
do you guys think i should mees with the Vcore to try and get better OC or should i be happy with 2.2Ghz

That sounds like my old 2500+... unfortunately it stops around 2.2.... you basically got a 3200+ packaged and sold as a 2500.. a really good deal for the standard overclocker. I would venture a guess that it will probably hit a wall @ or around 2.3... but thats still darn good for the desktop version.

yup hit a wall at 2309.99MHz

I have two MIXJB duron applebreds, I dont know if the guy that posted the stepping sticky is still active, so if one of the moderators could add this to the list im sure it would help one or two people along the road.

dont know what people got with other stepping applebreds, but I get 2.025ghz (150mhz FSB) with 1.425 volts... so mabye its the best/second best stepping? idk...serisouly.

they were produced within 10weeks of each other, the oldest one, produced 2004, week 6, the second, 2004, week 16

Raise your voltages for cpu and mem. Use a modded bios. Your ram might not let you. If you are using a stock H/S F your temps are not gonna be good at all. Your power supply while a quality one is borderline sufficient to overclock.

You may very well have the last Unlocked AMD chip that came off the processor Line. There are a couple Know Locked Bartons of week 39, but yours innt listed. You should be running 166FSB with a Multiplier of 11 stock settings.

Your NForce2 Motherboard should allow you to adjust the FSB Multiplier. Go into bios and try changing your multipler to 11.5 and save and reboot. Pull up WCPUID and see what your speed is at... If the Multiplier took, then its unlocked... If it reports back as 11x166m then its locked and you can submit your processor codes as a Known locked Week39 chip....

Now, you read the Overclocking Faqs and Stickies (Read Firsts's)

Then start or find a new thread that pertains to your new issue...

well first, GJ on gettin an unlocked Barton, those are hard to come by nowadays

second, what kind of RAM do you have in your system? I'd say the next step you could take to OC that chip is knock the multi down to around 10x, then up the FSB and see where you can get. Then bring the multi up and see how high you can clock that chip, should be OK with your current cooling

First off - sorry to start up an old topic. However, Im a lil confused guys.

Last night I cleaned off the as5 and re applied it. While doing so, I noted my steppings as follows:

AXDA2500DKV4D 1038387240393 AQZFA0344TPMW

Now according to what I've read, my multi should be locked as this is a week 44 chip. However, I've successfully [atleast I'm assuming] managed to raise it to 12 in the bios [specs are asus a7n8x-x, infineon ddr400 512]. CPUz also verified this. How's this possible? I've managed to get it stable at 1.8v with air cooling [TTv12].

Currently running Prime, appears to be running solid. Temp of diode is at 51, socket is at 47, mobo is at 27. Keep in mind, I haven't burned it in yet, just applied the as5 last night.

Any thoughts or is my rig imagining things?

Some post week 39 CPUs made it out unlocked. Some of the preweek 39 CPUs came out locked. Consider yourself very lucky.

If you look at the bottom of the first post you will see that there are some known unlocked post week 39 steppings. That guide has not been edited since January so it is not up to date.
