Yep, I've heard of it...only software overclocking though...never hardware, although I'm sure it has been done.

I overclockied my ECS desknote A929. It has a 1800+ in it right now set to 150FSB in the bios.

Now you're just splitting hairs... Only real difference is the battery is on the outside and its got more power than most laptops.

Perhaps, perhaps....
But it looks like a laptop to me, only the battery is on the outside to make more room and provide for better ventilation.
There's no difference in the CPU socket or the CPU's that can be used (I can use a mobile or desktop Athlon XP), and it uses desktop DDR. It takes a laptop hard drive, laptop optical drive, and for all I can tell uses a special laptop controller for its LCD.
Verdict: at least 85% similar to a laptop, but perhaps a bit beefier in some respects.... Certainly the CPU never starts operating at a slower speed due to heat like on many true laptops.

Overclolcking laptops is also possible if you get info about the clock generator and use software, or if the OEM manufacturers thought it would be a good idea to put the options in the bios. For AMD laptops it could be done by socket mods, I bet. And I know someone who wrote his own program for changing the multi on the fly in windows (if its a mobile XP).

yes you are right but the windows base doverclocking progrmas such as soft fsb etc hav enot been updated in a while and you would end up having to make your own clock gen file not impossible either way but not intended by the manufacturer (not that that ever stoped an oc'r esp on this forum)
