Someone tell me why the hell i wasted 20 minutes of my life, on the phone to Microsoft.

Issue: Each time i format my ssd and reinstall vista 64bit (oem copy), i'am told that the product key is already in use............thats because it ****ing me!:verymad

So anyway i have had to phone the automated service 3 times to successfully activate my copy. This isnt really a solution as you can imagine. Gets a bit......annoying to put it politely.

Decided an hour ago to phone the sugested microsoft uk number and this is where all the genius began...........:D;)

Employee no 1:

Can i take your amazon account number please?

ME: Microsoft yes?

Delayed reaction and then... yes in return.
Im thinking...now were getting somewhere.Hmmm

Asked to speak to a technical support agent regarding product key activation problems.

He then put me through and i got a message after a 5 minute wait saying "this dept is only open from 9am till 6pm.

FAIL!

Phoned again and the second employee got it right and put me through to the appropriate department.Or so i thought....

3rd Employee:

Good evening sir bla bla bla...... name/email adress/product key. Good.

On hold for 5 minutes.

Hello again sir, are you calling from United States or Canada?

:verymad................. breathe...........NO IM CALLING FROM SCOTLAND!. Why the hell didnt the 2nd employee tell me he was putting me through to the bloody U.S. Thats ****ing expensive!

After this the 3rd employee had 3 suggestions:

No 1 $59 to speak to a technical genius (PHD IN ****ING STUPIDITY.)
No 2 Contact the company that you bought your computer from.
No 3 Contact the Company you purchased the OEM copy from.

I replied:

No 1 Why dont i just buy Windows 7 for 20 bucks more?

Both are running Windows 7. I have configured sharing with each with the Homegroup settings. I can see the laptop's shared folder files that I am trying to get files off to put on my desktop via my desktop's network window, however when I click on Documents, or any icon for that matter, I am unable to continue with the process. I'm not sure what is holding me back?

Could it be router settings or firewall? Then again I don't see how those things would affect the transfer of files through a Windows-based sharing system.

I had problems with my stupid 1.5 gb/s samsung spinpoint sata drive not being recognized by vista and win7 installers. i have 3.0 gb/s sata. normally it's backwards compatible and works fine but a few sata controllers choke on certain hdd's, mine being one.

the installer would prompt me to choose a drive to install to, and nothing shows up. i click load drivers, and in the drive list, my sata drive is there lol, but not in the box where i choose a drive. it's stupid. i even loaded signed whql drivers onto a flash drive and loaded them from the windows installer and hit refresh and my drive still wouldn't show up.

but the drive shows up in windows and works great, bios even sees it. i just can't choose it in windows installer. it's stupid.

so... i installed win7 to an old ide hdd i had. i can see the sata drive in windows so i cloned the ide's image to the sata drive. i then changed boot order to sata drive being first, and it won't boot. Missing bootmgr or whatever it says.

Why isn't it bootable? I never learned the mechanics of how/what makes a drive bootable. When i explore the drive, it's identical to my ide drive as far as contents. What can i do to make it bootable?

hope this makes sense, it's a weird problem lol

I've posted here a few times with problems and someone here has also helped resolve the issue, so I figured I would come here for help again. I built my computer right at a year ago and installed windows xp 32bit on it. Over the period I had windows xp on it my computer would randomly freeze playing video games, leaving it idle with anywhere from 30minutes-5+days up time. I figured it may have been something with XP, but I installed windows 7 32bit and I am still having the same issue. The only programs I have running are AVG and uTorrent. I can turn it on and use it then come back a few hours later and it's frozen: mouse and keyboard neither one work. Also if I'm listen to music and it freezes it stays on the same exact spot, for example, the song goes 1 2 3 4 5 then my computer freezes and it'll sound like 5 5 5 5 5 5. It's a very persistent and it's quite annoying. I'm going to list my computer specs below. Also I have used coretemp and realtemp to monitor my CPU temps and they never go above 45 unless I'm playing a game then they reach 52 or so. The case has 2 120mm fans on it, one of which is blowing on the HDD and the other is in the back of the case as an exhaust fan. My case also has 2 vents on the side: one for the CPU and the other for the GPU.

Mobo: Asus P5N-T Deluxe
CPU: Intel quad core Q6600
Heatsink: It's an upgraded Zalman heatsink (I'll get the full name)
Power Supply: Thermaltak 500W (I'll add the model)

Now, a few problems I've come across. Only one profile is an option on startup, and this profile does NOT have admin rights. Therefore, I cannot reformat from XP. I tried putting in an XP CD and changing bios to boot the CD rom first. After this, the computer just does nothing. The CD keeps spinning and nothing happens. I attempted making a new user profile but it's not even an option anywhere. How else can I reformat this devil!?!?

My second shot is next weekend, and i want to get it done then so i don't have to keep going back. before i throw up my arms and reinstall, i was hoping you all might have some ideas on what to look at. I intend to clean it out with a duster and reseat all the cards/connections in case it's a over heating issue which is what it sounds like. (didn't have canned air last weekend) But there are other things that make me suspect virus.

that said, what happens is that the PC will just reboot randomly.But the thing that makes me think it's not a overheating issue is that i cleaned it out not too long ago, and i was having problems using and installing some malware/spyware apps. So i thought it might more likely be a virus. i did manage to get spybot and adaware running and removed a few infections. But malwarebytes wouldn't run all the way thru w/o restarting.

anyways, any thoughts would be helpfull. I am deathly allergic to her cats, and whenever i go there i can only stay for maybe an hour before i can no longer breathe well enough to stay any longer. so i'm really desperate to get this working w/o reinstall, because if i have to do that she'll have me back there god knows how many times getting everything working the same again !!! does anyone know how to fix it if you're using an extended dual screen setup? i use a laptop at work and just brought in my personal samsung 22inch (got tired of the work provided acer 19) and i cant snap something to the left side of the screen because it goes onto the laptop screen.

any ideas? (besides manually sizing).

I understand that Win 7 Ultimate comes with both versions on the disk. Is this true? I don't currently have any software that is 64 bit. I guess I can try the 64 bit and re-install the 32 bit if necessary.

I'm just trying to get a feel of what to expect here. Thanks for your input.
