Since this is a two way street, AMD will also give some patents to Intel and make the competition less exciting. Nehalem looks much like AMD’s Barcelona and AMD will concentrate on catching up with Intel and bringing innovations that should help the company in 2011 to introduce some cool products such as Fusion as well as its Bulldozer savior core.
According the German gaming publication Computer Bild Spiele, Ubisoft would only release an early review copy of Assassins Creed 2 if the magazine agreed to give the game its highest grade, "sehr gut" or "very good" in German. The magazine refused and audaciously decided to tell their customers about it as you can see in this poorly translated editor's note. Computer Bild Spiele plans to review the game only after it has been officially released.

We all know it is constantly being delayed - but at the end of all those delays, what we were expecting was a stellar product from Nvidia. However, with today's press release, certain inconvenient details are revealed. Let's forget about the delays for now, and just consider the product itself.

The first Fermi GPU - GF100 - as we know for a while now, is a 3 billion transistor giant, taking a die size of around 500 mm2. Compare this with the 2.15 billion transistor, 330 mm2 Cypress on the same 40nm TSMC process, and you would be expecting a different class of product. Unfortunately, the details revealed today about cast an uncertain shadow over this basic assumption.

The first thing worth noticing is a complete and total absence of Single Precision performance figures or any comparison to direct competition - i.e. ATI's GPGPUs. It is clear that Fermi's real performance advantage would be Double Precision performance - had it hit the right clock speeds.

However, today's press release suggests Nvidia have missed target speeds by a lot. To be fair, Tesla products do clock lower, though not by much. In fact, GTX 280 and Tesla C1060 were clocked the same. Even taking a generous increase for Geforce products, things are still uncertain. As a result, DP performance is rated at between 520 GFlops and 630 GFlops. Suddenly, ATI Radeon HD 5870 - which wasn't even supposed to be a direct competitor - is performing right on par with 544 GFlops against Fermi's supposed strong point.
I knew ATi reduced stock clocks to keep it within specs. This card looks amazing. It's pretty much $100 cheaper than 2 5870's!

Kidding, it's just a paper launch of Tesla cards based on Fermi.

PORTLAND, Ore.— SC09—Nov. 16, 2009—NVIDIA Corporation (Nasdaq: NVDA) today unveiled the Tesla 20-series of parallel processors for the high performance computing (HPC) market, based on its new generation CUDA processor architecture, codenamed “Fermi”.
Designed from the ground-up for parallel computing, the NVIDIA® Tesla™ 20-series GPUs slash the cost of computing by delivering the same performance of a traditional CPU-based cluster at one-tenth the cost and one-twentieth the power.
The Tesla 20-series introduces features that enable many new applications to perform dramatically faster using GPU Computing. These include ray tracing, 3D cloud computing, video encoding, database search, data analytics, computer-aided engineering and virus scanning.
“NVIDIA has deployed a highly attractive architecture in Fermi, with a feature set that opens the technology up to the entire computing industry,” said Jack Dongarra, director of the Innovative Computing Laboratory at the University of Tennessee and co-author of LINPACK and LAPACK.
The Tesla 20-series GPUs combine parallel computing features that have never been offered on a single device before. These include:

Support for the next generation IEEE 754-2008 double precision floating point standard

ECC (error correcting codes) for uncompromised reliability and accuracy

Multi-level cache hierarchy with L1 and L2 caches

Support for the C++ programming language

Up to 1 terabyte of memory, concurrent kernel execution, fast context switching, 10x faster atomic instructions, 64-bit virtual address space, system calls and recursive functions

At their core, Tesla GPUs are based on the massively parallel CUDA computing architecture that offers developers a parallel computing model that is easier to understand and program than any of the alternatives developed over the last 50 years.
"There can be no doubt that the future of computing is parallel processing, and it is vital that computer science students get a solid grounding in how to program new parallel architectures," said Dr. Wen-mei Hwu, Professor in Electrical and Computer Engineering of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. "GPUs and the CUDA programming model enable students to quickly understand parallel programming concepts and immediately get transformative speed increases."
The family of Tesla 20-series GPUs includes:

Tesla C2050 & C2070 GPU Computing Processors

Single GPU PCI-Express Gen-2 cards for workstation configurations

Up to 3GB and 6GB (respectively) on-board GDDR5 memory (*)

Double precision performance in the range of 520GFlops - 630 GFlops

Tesla S2050 & S2070 GPU Computing Systems

Four Tesla GPUs in a 1U system product for cluster and datacenter deployments

Up to 12 GB and 24 GB (respectively) total system memory on board GDDR5 memory (**)

Double precision performance in the range of 2.1 TFlops - 2.5 TFlops

The Tesla C2050 and C2070 products will retail for $2,499 and $3,999 and the Tesla S2050 and S2070 will retail for $12,995 and $18,995. Products will be available in Q2 2010. For more information about the new Tesla 20-series products, visit the Tesla product pages.

Just within AT's price range!

Source: http://www.elitebastards.com/index.p...ases&Itemid=34

So to be clear, this is a paper launch of Tesla based on Fermi. Desktop GPUs are due Q1 2010, these Tesla cards are coming out Q2 2010, even though they're not intended for gaming.

Well this is a bit of a surprise. For all the talk we keep hearing about how piracy is destroying the video game industry, and news stories with video game execs talking up DRM and the threat of piracy, a recent study of video game developers had only 10% saying that piracy was a threat to their business. Plenty were concerned about it as an issue they had to deal with, but most seemed to have some perspective on the relative risk of the threat. In fact, other parts of the survey note that about 50% are adapting to the marketplace, saying that "piracy" will change the way they do business, with it mostly meaning more "piracy-proof" business models. On the DRM front, there isn't a whole lot of interest. 50% called it irrelevant with another 20% describing DRM as a part of the problem. I have to admit I'm a bit surprised by the findings (which makes me wonder a bit about the methodology), but it's nice to see at least some suggestion that developers are adapting, rather than threatening and blaming.

A nice wad of cash AND a 23% share price rise means is a good time for AMD right now. Lets hope they capatalise on it and start grinding out those 58XX cards and some new CPU arch asap!

Rumors are rampant and the BS is deep when it comes to AMD and its 5800 series video cards actually being in stock for purchase at e-tailers and retailers. HardOCP aims to get some straight answers to let our readers know what all this means to you and how it could impact your 5870 or 5850video card purchase.
---------------
The Bottom Line
The fact of the matter is that 5800 series video card e-tail and retail availability sucks right now. That is not to say these cards are not hitting the shelves, there are just so few of them spread out globally at the moment, that when a card does actually go into stock, those cards are sold immediately. I know we have many readers waiting like hawks for a 5800 card to stick its head out of the grass. If you are impatient, the 5800 is likely not for you, but if you have a bit of time to stake out your target, the elusive 5800 can be had, and it will get simpler to lay your hands on one in the next few weeks.

It'll be nice to see prices dropping for the 5800 cards before Christmas.
Sauces in the underground taco bars of downtown Sunnyvale have been whispering that the long anticipated attempt by PC component maker OCZ to list itself on the NASDAQ is now underway. There's nothing like a fresh taco to get the tongue wagging and it looks like some industry insiders have been overheard discussing this development.

It seems that OCZ's pitch to would-be investors centres around its SSD (solid state drive) offering, and its insistence that OCZ would sell loads more of them if only it had a bit more cash to buy stock with. Apparently OCZ is currently unable to fulfill demand for its SSDs but, strangely, its memory and PSU offerings barely get a mention.

OCZ is hoping to raise several million dollars in new investment by offering preferred stock. It also hopes to achieve the 300 shareholder threshold required before a company can be listed on the NASDAQ and will further sweeten the deal by offering share price protection for 60 days after the anticipated NASDAQ listing date of 1 January 2010.

OCZ looks like they are trying to become a dominant player in long term storage, now that things appear to be on the verge of a revolution. They have been aggressively pursuing all of the latest technologies and their support forums have been highly proactive at working through problems. However, you have to wonder what would happen if one of their competitors like Intel or Seagate developed/obtained the next cost affordable alternative. Will they stay a top player or get lost among the growing crowd?
