It it the server the game is hosted upon... Sadly, my connection to the server sucks royally. I often have very high p loss and large ping. I trace routed the connection and checked each HOP server, I attempted to ping the server in question, one in sanjose which appeared to be losing all of my packets...The result was no response, complete loss of packets.
I replicated the situation 10 + times and used a separate trace routing system built in to the game and had similar results...
What shall I do?
My ethernet port is gigabit on my motherboard but my router (old Linksys WRT54G Ver.4) is only 10/100. If I get a gigabit router like the D-Link DIR-655 Extreme N Gigabit router, would I see a difference in speed on the internet when surfing or downloading to my SSD drive? I've got Bright House Roadrunner 20mbps connection.

Edit: Got my answer!

Guys. So I've somehow messed up my work laptop slightly. I'm working with my IT group on this one, but figured I'd ask here as well to see if I couldn't figure it out myself. :)

Anyway, so here's the deal. My computer seems to be unable to be accessed by anyone on the network. It's almost like I have a Software Firewall on, but it's clearly off given my settings (i.e. Windows Firewall appears disabled and our IT doesn't install any other Firewall stuff). No one can access any port on my laptop. Just for kicks, I did a netstat -a and things did come back as LISTENING so there should be stuff that would accept connections. I can go onto the network just fine and access others.

Other people can also resolve my Hostname just fine (i.e. DNS is working fine). ARP also appears to be working (i.e. others can clear their ARP table and when it gets repopulated my MAC address shows up just fine).

So my computer is talking with the DNS and ARP servers just fine. However, like I said, something on my computer is preventing access when coming in.

I've tried being on the network with both my Wireless connection and a wired connection (simultaneously on and one at a time), all producing the same result meaning to me it's not a network card issue, but rather a computer setting problem. Ok. Narrowing it down.

I popped on WireShark with a buddy doing a constant ping (ping -t <hostname>) and I never saw a packet come across my network card for it.

Anyway, I'm hoping someone can give me something else to try as I'm stumped as well as my IT group.

As far as what might have caused this problem? The only I can think that I was doing was that I was messing around with CCleaner removing some stuff from the StartUp list to try and free up some more resources (laptop is over 3 years old and our software is getting to be a hog on these old laptops). However, I'm not seeing any errors that relate listed in the Event Viewer logs to anything service related.

Anyone got anything? Let me know if I'm missing something basic.

"Windows could not finish repairing the problem because the following action cannot be completed:
TCP/IP is not enabled for this connection. Cannot proceed.
For assistance, contact the person who manages your network".

I get this message whenever I try the "Repair" option in Control Panel > Network Connections > 1394 Connection > "Support" tab

this all just happened out of the blue, yesterday it was fine, today it isn't...

i tried rebooting, doing a "hard power " and selecting the "Last Known Good Configuration", as well as returning to a restore point -- nothing works :(

any ideas? (im using XP sp3)
