Hey guys, been using my computer lately tweaking with the overclock settings. Haven't done it in awhile, and i've been having issues with it. I've been using this 500w antec power supply ever since I could remember. It's having issues when I overclock no matter how much vcore I dump into it. The overclock itself will stay stable, but when I go to run the 7 benchmark assesment tool, the computer literally just shuts off. It doesnt reboot, it just shuts off. Is this a sign that my power supplys about to die? I mean I did have a good run with it, i remember buying it back in highschool (about 6 years ago). My specs changed since I last updated my sig. I also used the power supply calculator, and it put me at roughly 430w with capacitor aging.

asus p5n-e sli
intel e6600 conroe
4gb ram ocz
2x 1tb samsung f1
1x 1tb western digital
evga geforce 9800gt
audigy 2
optiarc sata burner
3x 120mm fans

edit: back to stock clocks, the windows 7 benchmark runs fine. having a real hard time troubleshooting this computer. assuming the videocard is demanding too much power that it just shuts off. the overclock was orthos stable.

I have a Gateway SX2800 (it's a small form factor computer) and I'm planning on upgrading to a low-profile Geforce 9600 GT from Galaxy. The computer I have comes with a 220w power supply so I'm trying to find a power supply that is at least 300w that will fit in my computer and handle the graphics card. I'm having a really hard time finding one that will fit so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I thought this might fit but I'm not sure after reading what some other people have said:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817151070

Here are some quotes from other people I have found while Googling regarding my PC and a psu upgrade (I have no idea rather or not they are accurate...):

Quote:

Nope. Does not appear as though it will fit:

Seasonic TFX 300w PS

6.9" * 3.3" * 2.8"

Stock 220W PS

8.9" * 3.6" * 2.1" (actually measured on my sx2800 +- 0.050" )

It's the 2.8" that's killing you. As far as I can tell on mine, you might get a supply that's 2.3" high in there (maybe) but 2.8" - no way !! What's happening is that the motherboard/heatsink/fan assy can't allow for it. So we're stuck with the 220W PS. From what I've read so far it appears that
SAPPHIRE 100252HDMI Radeon HD 4550 card will work with this PS althought I think more venting/cirrculation (fans, vent holes) should be required IMHO.
And I'm thinking as far as providing a opening covered with mesh over the back half of the "tray" on top of the case. That's right directly above and adjacent to the video graphics card that would sit in the PCIe -16 slot.

Quote:

I have a feeling that the Flex ATX-270LE (270W Flex ATX) PS will work as the dimensions are:
150L x 81.5W x 40.5H mm

Flex ATX-220SI (220W Flex ATX12V) is:
150Lx82Wx62.7H mm

IMHO the limiting dimensions for a few PS boxes I looked at is the width of 82mm (there just aint any more room width-wise!). Then there is the height because the stock 220W PS only has about a 1/4 of inch of space between it and the motherboard/fan assy/heatsink.

Even so, you still have to figure out:
1) the mounting screw locations
2) the configuration of the plugs coming out of the upgrade PS

I'm still looking into this.

So if anybody knows of a good power supply that is at least 300 watts that will for sure fit then that would be greatly appreciated.

I would very much appreciate recommendations for a UPS. At the moment, all that needs to be plugged in are the tower and monitor. Printers and such are networked in other locations.

It also occurs to me that the cyberpower I am running this rig (Sig) off of could be better. I have two other computers plugged into the battery, but these are not turned on all the time. What would be a good UPS to handle two of three computers for safe shutdown. I am generally thinking about these as surge protectors, but with all the money plugged in around here, I should probably pay a bit more attention.

Thanks,
Reason why I ask is because they have a 1100w 80 Plus Gold, Single +12v @ 83A on Newegg and I was just wondering what people like david and the like would think of it.

Something I noticed about it though is that it uses the same modular cable design as Corsair and Ultra does for their PSUs.

The Emermax Liberty 500 watt PSU I had running my spare rig just up and quit the other day. It might have been cause by a sudden power outage while the computer was running, but it could have been something else. The CPU HS fan spins up for a second and then quits. There are several recent threads with the same problem and I had the same problem a few months ago with a different spare rig. The Enermax PSU had 22 amps on each of the 2 +12volt rails and was only running an Opty 165 stock, 6800GS stock and 2 * 250GB HDDs in RAID 1 so nothing special or hard core.

I was reading through several threads asking about PSUs and found this PSU listed:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817139008

It has 30 amps on the +12 volt rail (single). Would the be sufficient to run the rig listed completely stock. I am trying to find something that is very inexpensive, but is still of a good quality.

I did try to get an RMA for the PSU, but was denied for being out of the 3 year warranty.

I'm looking to build a cheap htpc for my wife for CHRISTmas....i wanted a htpc case that was big enough so as to avoid having to use low profile cards.....and i came across this apevia case...

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811144232

I like the price and size....but I'm a bit nervous about the psu the case comes with....I would NEVER use an apevia psu normally but I know that i'm not going to come close to pushing this psu...

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817148038

Since the whole build is going to be with cheap low power parts would it be reasonably safe to use the psu in your opinions?
