Also, are the smp units still all jacked up and require a login and whatever else it used to require? Do they still only use two cores, or can they use more now? Anything else I should know?

Hey Guys,

I've been folding for a while using the regular cpu clients. I just built a new machine though and would like to push it to it's limits. I have no experience with the SMP or GPU clients and would appreciate any help in getting everything running the best way possible.

Computer specs:

- Intel BOXDX58SO LGA 1366 Intel X58 ATX Intel Motherboard

-Intel Core i7 920 2.66GHz 8M L3 Cache 4.8GT/sec QPI Hyper-Threading Turbo Boost LGA1366 Processor

- Corsair TR3X6G1333C9 XMS3 6 GB 3 x 2 GB PC3-10666 1333MHz 240-Pin DDR3 Core i7 Memory Kit

- HIS H467P1GP Radeon HD 4670 iSilence4 HDMI Dual DL-DVI (HDCP) 1GB (128bit) DDR3 PCI Express 2.0 X16 RoHS Video Card

I think that's all that's relevant to folding.

I tried installing the SMP client, but for some reason it doesn't like the -smp flag. This is the error i get:

I'm running Windows 7 64 Bit.

Thanks in advance!!!

hello people, I am finally back to folding with my 8800gt.
I was hoping to grab a lower power hungry but as I already had it, well, standard gigabyte (yet it is oc version) 5512MB product name is NX88T512HP.

I installed the Gamer HUD but strangely, it does not show 100% load on the GPU.
Temperatures goes up and now is at 75ºC...

Also I would expect a full loaded core in my a64x2...

So questions goes like this:
1 - Is it normal to have the GPU not showing right? I have the cpu at 1.6Ghz now.
2 - Is it normal to CPU load to be small?

3 - Also I am making a frame at each 56 seconds on fahcore_11 and work unit Project: 5766 (Run 10, Clone 40, Gen 320)

So is this going good???

Thank you for your feedback.

Additional Comment:

I may have had a virus or something, i restarted my computer and a virus warning came up, so I deleted the core it was working on and it picked up a new one and seems to be running fine...

I am running a virus scan now to see but is there anything else that could have caused it?

Thanks goes to EVGA forums for this.

Requirements:
i7 processor with HT on (or a CPU with quad cores and HT)
6GB+ of ram (3600 for the VM alone) (people are reporting 8 core stability with 4600mb RAM)
OC to ~3.5+

Reason for the OC is because you're not running native Linux, so you will be at a slight disadvantage there. Also, you can only run 7 cores (with HT on) stable, so you are limited there.

Most people are seeing about 53,000 points when their WU submit. Frame times are 33-35minutes depending on your OC. Roughly 2.2-2.4 days to complete a WU.

Basically you can expect 20,000+ ppd on a decently OCed i7 processor.

Yes, it is stable. I'm submitting my 3rd WU today from my i7 VM.

Currently I am not folding due to economic constrains and therefore the energy bill is an issue.
I was thinking about a Gigabyte board with ACC to have overclocability for future.

But going back on folding I would like to know what is the best low end card to fold?
One that is not too power-hungry.

Eventually if the power draw of the whole system is low, I will leave it on 24/7.

Thank you for your suggestions!

well i tried to open it back up after the shutdown and it said i need current drivers for the card...i have them but it isn't being used since it is in the second slot and the first slot is used by the 4870, so I suppose i need to force it to use the card with a flag of some type?
i think our folding support group went on break!

At present your GPU is not supported or you need a current driver.
You may wish to consider running our standard client,
which you can download at folding.stanford.edu.

Does anyone know what the problem is?
I have Windows XP x86, and the Nvidia 191.07 driver.

Additional Comment:

It works perfectly now - all I needed to do was add a "-forcegpu nvidia_g80" flag to the 2nd client, and disable PhysX.

The GPU fan is very loud, though... can't wait for water cooling.
