After $10 mail in rebate + $20 for a coolermaster tx3 its a pretty cheap build. I started out with 240x14 and things looked well. I dropped the NB/HTT to 1.6ghz and cranked the FSB up to 285. benchmarks completed but the system is randomly rebooting. Right now im running OCCT 3.01 and i should be able to look over the logs of voltages/temps.

This chip is a great overclocker for $50 but im really annoyed with locked multiplier. It drives me nuts that i cant get my system stable WITH my memory running in spec while having a large overclock. i either have to gimp my memory or gimp my processor. I don't know if I should post this here or in the Motherboard section.

I wanted to OC my AMD Athlon 4050e (2.1GHz) I'm not looking to mess with the voltage and get to 3.5GHz, I'd just like to bump it up from 2.1 to 2.8 or so
Only problem is, my BIOS doesn't give me any options to tweak the CPU or FSB.
I wanted to try AMD OverDrive but my chipset isn't supported.
So, basically my question is: am I sh* outta luck and need a new Mobo? or is there some piece of software from which I can either: unlock my BIOS or tweak the frequencies from Windows?

Obviously, I don't want to buy a new motherboard. I just bought this computer because my laptop died and I was strapped for cash. It was a pretty good deal for under $500 (screen included). Now I want to upgrade it component by component. And for that I was hoping to start with case/fans/cooling/graphics card rather than MOBO/CPU/RAM.

Any input is appreciated,

There is no OC on this rig, just an office computer.

What are some thing i should trouble shoot, there was a windows update last week iam not sure if that had something to do with it. I ran some tests with it at the stock 3400mhz and it was at about 37C on load, so after a few boring minutes of that i rebooted and started my OC'ing journey once again!!!

I have started off by raising the multi up to 19x making the clock speed 3800mhz(for those of us who don't like math) and I am currently running stability tests and it hasn't gotten over 41C so far so I am pretty happy with a 3800mhz proc out of the box.

just a quick update, after 15 min at 3.8 i upped the multi again to 20x so now I am at 4.0 and have a nice validation for everyone here and will continue to update and OC!!

with the added .05 vcore to make it 1.45 it now runs at 41-42C on load, which should go down once I clean out my loop.

just noticed my ram wasn't up do speed, so I upped that and still validates

I have the Asus M3N78-Pro MB, so I didn't expect the best OC. But I wanted to try to get a closer CPU multiplier/bus speed/RAM match-up. I have 2 Gb of OCZ 1066 dual channel DDR2 RAM.

Usually - without worrying about the memory speed, I could run fine at about 3.4 GHz by using multipliers from 14 - 17x and pairing the bus freq.

Then "it" just "happened". No more OC at all.
Using CPUz, the CPU would no longer accept manual OC parameters. I don;t mean "overclock failure", I mean BIOS shows the parameters I am setting - those that ran fine before, but CPUz shows that the multiplier is stuck at the 14x and 200 MHz bus freq, (standard non-OC'd 2.8 GHz CPU speed).

No harmful voltage hikes were played with. Memory timings seem to remain adjustable.
I have tried starting from only basics but its as if the CPU is now locked or will not permit OC, but the BIOS shows the parameters are there and they can even be changed.

I have re-flashed the BIOS, which was already at the latest revision offered (as are all Asus MB updates). Nothing I have tried has worked to regain the ability to OC.

What is the difference between VDD voltages and just regular voltage settings in the BIOs.

For example.

CPU VDD Voltage vs. CPU Voltage
CPU-NB VDD Voltage vs. CPU-NB Voltage

And also, when you are increasing the NB frequency and it becomes unstable, is it necessary to increase the CPU-NB Voltage, or just the NB Voltage..... or both??

When I read google articles about it, they make it sound like the VDD is like.... the power SOURCE for the CPU/CPU-NB and the regular voltage is what the chip actually uses. But that confuses me because I'm taking electrical eng right now and I see now reason why you would want either of those to be different, because then you would just have wasted power if the same amount of current is being pushed....

Guys, I am unable to overclock my cpu at all. Tried by multi, voltage, fsb - nothing is working. Mobo has decent OC features, memory is ok, PSU seems to be putting out correct voltages - anything I have overlooked? ACC is off, due to when I due enable it on all cores it unlocks my 4th core which doesnt work at all.

When I do overclock to 3ghz from 2.8ghz the system is unstable and Window constantly reboots from BSODs. Set at default its fine, no errors - nothing. When I try to overclock, unstable and errors everywhere. Completely confused, what would you guys do or look at. Do you think there is a issue somewhere? Upgraded from Athlon 4800+ x2. I have unlocked all 4 cores no problem and with in 5 minutes have it overclocked to 3.4ghz. Can't wait to see how much I can get out of this thing.
