Radeon 9200 volt mod! *pics inside*

ok heres how you do it

We saw turbo do it, but his card is butchered version, and has a differnt power circuit to two 9200's i tested my version of the mod on

My card is a Powercolor Radeon 9200TD (256mb).

Warning, volt mods are dangerous, proceed with caution.

ok, firstly, cheers to BigZ for helping me work this out.

Here is the top of the card, the circled area is where we are working (ignore the blue arrow to the chip on the top right, its irrelevent )

Then solder two legs of a female fan plug, to this chip (the blue highlighted legs )

Now here is the back of the card, the circled area is where we are going to work next. (ignore the blue arrow pointing at a chip, its irrelevant)

Now plug in the card and boot up, locate these two points on the card. measure accross them with a DMM, you should get 1.6v~

Power down. now place a 20k resister in the fan header you soldered on. boot up again and measure. you should have about .03v more.

heres what i got:
no resistor = 1.63v
20k = 1.66v
10k = 1.71v
5k = 1.8v

you may get problems over 1.8v, becuase you will be pushing the limits of the power circuit on your card.

with no mods, i could only get 315mhz core, now with 1.8v on the core, i can run 3dmark2k1 at 360mhz core.

happy modding

at stock voltage (and stock cooler), ati tool maxes it at 290core/460mem.
I can bench without artifacts at 315/460 on 3dmark2k1

now with the core at 1.8v, and Zalman ZM80C cooling, ati tool maxes it at 340core/460mem.
I can bench without artifacts at 360/460 on 3dmark2k1

i was going to find out the memory mod too, but i can't be stuffed anymore since im getting a 9800pro in a few days, lol.

Heat it up with a hairdryer and pull it off. If that doesnt work throw it in the freezer for a few hours, thats how i got ma 9700P Stock sink off. GL!

Its easy getting the thermal pad off. Just cover the core in hot glue, then peel it off. Do that about 6 times and ur good to go.

The memory cannot be modded as it is not controlled by a regulator, but rather by a series of resistors. Sry bro :P
