Can't open a certain file type

im trying to open a file with the extension ".rp" for a friend. it was originally made with the program "student writing center" the computer he was using pretty much died on him, he got the file out but now he can't open it. i tried opening it in every program i could think of. office 2003, notepad, wordpad...none of them could do it - only a bunch of zeros and such. anyway, if anybody know of a program that might be able to open this file that would be great. i've tried to acquire student writing center with no success.
