A Skype Dedicated Machine?
For those of you who do not know what skype is (www.skype.com) , it is a program that allows you to "call" people through the internet, provided they have this program. My idea, is a simple laptop base unit then either a PS1 LCD or laptop LCD or for a perfect option, a touch screen. The touch screen would mean no need for keyboard or mouse. Other hardware would include network adapter or wireless capability and also a headset for voice communication. Think of the possibilities... This setup would cost around $20-$150 depending on how much you are willing to splash out, and if you manage to have all your mates get one or build them for them, free phone calls all around! Maybe it's not worth it but I'm tempted to see how small I could develop these to be. Anyone else got any input? PS: Please move this thread if it is in the wrong place. Thankyou. |

Well if it could call a normal phone line then it would be awsome. However, your idea is still awsome, and it would be great if everyone started using Skype, but they won't (plus knowing Britain, they would make it so that it is taxed every month to prevent BT etc. dyeing out, they would also make you have an M.O.T on it evey year to make sure that the engineers get some cash from it aswell).

Thanks, I'm glad you like the idea. LOL, I know what you mean with the MOT and stuff. They would find some way to charge us for it.
My point is, if enough got made then it wouldn't need to call phone lines or atleast if you made enough for you and your mates (I know sometimes you have to call the odd person that you don't know but.. yeh lol). Think of the possibilities if a GPRS (mobile phone) version was released or doing it over wireless. |
