GPU Folder added

I just got an X1900GT for about a buck and a half at NewEgg, to put in a media system because it has VIVO, and tried the GPU core on it. It's doing 11:11 on a frame for the 330 pt. 2758, an estimated 425 PPD boost. Not a bad deal. I've also ordered parts for my upcoming NAS box, and for no real reason than folding, I'll go ahead and put x86_64 on it, since everyone here is so pleased with the folding results from it. Soon, I guess there will be one more in the red.<img>

Very nice - let us know how it goes. I'd be interested to hear how hard it is to get a GPU set up folding, how stable, points, etc etc.

Well, they jumped the gun saying in the FAQ thinking 7.1 would make everything right. Use the Catalyst 6.5 and ONLY Catalyst 6.5, I got two EUE's faster than I could shut it down with the Catalyst 7.1 drivers, GPU init failure. It's turning in 330 pt GPU WU's every 18 hours or so, running very stable with Win2KSP4 on a Shuttle SN21 with A64 3700 @ 2.5GHz. The wimp 250W PS in the Shuttle seems to be able to take it just fine, 12V rail is 12.24V with a DVM. I got the X1900GT because everything faster/bigger is doublewide, and the Shuttle's PCIe is on the outside so it can only take a singlewide card.

EDIT: Has anyone tried running a normal CPU client alongside the GPU client, with the GPU client at slightly higher priority? I may give that a shot and see how it works out.

I am running an E6300 with an x1900gt getting similar results. The E6300 turns in ~375 to 396 every three days or so and the x1900gt does 330 every 18-21 hours (usually 2x18 hrs followed by a 21 hrs). Think it is just the timing of the stats page updates. Between the two instances my machine runs at 100% on both cores 24/7 in Windows XP Pro.

As long as you've got a dual core system, you should be able to feed the GPU with 1 core and use the other for the standard client.

I think I'm getting more points now that I have one core 100%, the other at 70%, and the GPU running then just running one CPU and GPU. Before just running one CPU and one GPU CPU usage was 100%.

If you can find some happy medium that gets you the best ppd, let us know. I've seen some other posts like yours.

Well, when I get back home tomorrow night, I should have the parts to put an Opty 165 system together, but I'm going to load x86_64 linux on it, and I'm not about to waste a perfectly good Opteron on a scrawny 250W PS box like the Shuttle, so the GPU will be a single processor box for the foreseeable future. Sounds like I might be able to squeeze a few extra PPD running a CPU folder at 20-40% while the GPU client is running, hardly seems worth the points loss tweaking it would involve.

I'm thinking about RMAing my 7900GT for an x19xx series but the ATI cards are sooo freakin long it'll block the CPU cooling intake on my SD31P!

The X1900GT is single wide, and wasn't really any longer than the 6800GT that I had in there. Your SD31 isn't any smaller than my SN21...

I just got the gpu client up as well: 1950pro running around 8:05 a frame on the 330s. Setup was fantastically easy too (download client, open client, it's off and running.) This is better than I expected, since the pro is a stunted card. Cat 6.11 drivers, if anyone cares. I think it's completed 5 wu since I started it, no errors yet. I'm pretty happy, i guess.

Good going, and welcome! If you haven't, go to the CP and set up your folding name to get your "carbon ring" red folding icon. I had an odd one, Catalyst threw up a box saying it had reset the craphics card because it wasn't accepting commands, which interrupted the GPU folding. This is after about a week of continuous folding, don't know if it will be a regular thing or if it's a glitch.
