Trying to design/build an HTPC
Basically all I would want to do is use it for Windows Media Center on a network back to my existing Media PC that contains all the hard drives with my Video and Music files. I will also be playing occasional HD DVD's on it as well. It will be hooked up to my 42" Plasma TV. I guess the parts I have questions on are: Video Card (I want to play HD DVD's) CPU MOBO HD Sound Card (do I need a good one?) Memory DVD player (Should I get a Blu Ray drive or and DVD HD drive?) Can someone at least point me in a direction? Thanks in advance! GPU: 8000 series (the 8600 is the best bet for a HTPC)
CPU: cheap-ish dual core should be fine until you want to start recording multiple HD streams. MOBO: idk HD: Big... I would say look at the 500GB's that are around $109 as a minimum. Sound Card: I used on board, but I don't watch movies with my HTPC so you probably should look into a quality sound card. Memory: 2GB *should* be fine. If you go Vista maybe 4... I have vista with 2 and it's fine though. If you need a HTPC case send me a PM |
