Flashing 8800 ultra BIOS

yoo fellas...

got a question, I own a msi 8800 ultra card, and since it is a stock oc at 660/1550/2300 it has little to no headroom. Now, im thinking....are there any methods besides the voltmod, which im no quite ready to do yet to get higher numbers ? I was thinking of flashing the bios of the card at a higher voltage, to acquire higher possible clocks.I have high end swiftech WC parts, so overheating shouldnt be too much of an issue..

PS: just out of curiosity, are two ultras clocked at the above specs, a better choice than one 9800 gx2 ??

cheers !

If you are having problems with AA/AF then your system is probably the bottleneck. That card should eat up and spit out 1920X1200 with AA/AF without much problem.

I smell system bottleneck as I am running a GTX at 650/1680/950 and I can play most games at 1900X1080 on max settings with AA and AF to boot

If you didn't know your video card had a bios, you probably shouldn't mess with it. They are bios's/firmware, but not like you see on your computer. It is usually a file that you copy off the card, modify and re-flash back to the card. This can be simple in some cases, but never the less an extremely risky proposition for the un-initiated.

I haven't messed with it since the R9800pro days, but even back then people were tweaking the video card bios and flashing firmware from other cards to improve the performance of their card. I would expect that it's gotten even more complicated over the years.

You cannot change the G80 voltage through the bios. The most recent cards you could have done that on were the G92 boards and the NV40 boards.

i really doubt my system bottlenecking, as I have OCd my q6600 to 3.8 ghz for the sole purpose

to be hones only games i have problems with high AA and AF numbers are crysis, and world in conflict-which can play them maxed out with dips at nuclear blasts....Im generally not asking this for contemporary use, as there are rare games which put my rig to the test, but for some time in the future...what would prolly be better off, performance and money-wise..getting new cards, voltmodding ultra or waiting for its price to drop and try out sli with solid enough drivers and games to utilise it

concerning the bios, I think I have seen on the msi site that you can flash the cards bios at a higher voltage, might be wrong about the series though, as k@ain said.

To clear it up, there is no voltage changing through the bios on any G80 boards.

To answer the question, there is no way to allow your card to reach higher OC's other than to go extreme cooling for small gains, or go Vmod, which i'd personally recommend beacuse with that cooling a 10% OV is 99.9% safe, 15% is a good idea. There's simply nothing else your card can use to go faster other than colder Temps or volts.

Just because you have a fast CPU doesn't mean everything is running 100% in sync. I would do further testing of your system and see what you come up with.

Check out my sig, i have a less powerful CPU then you and my video card laughs at AA/AF.

Crysis laughs at your PC (and most everyone's) if you try to use AA/AF.

Honestly, if I knew it was that game you were worried about my answer would have been different. If you want high settings and high AA/AF in Crysis, 9800GX2 SLI has show it has the power to do it.
