What rules and what sucks?

So guys, its been a while since I have spent any time in this section of the forum. So as of now, what is the best bang for the buck in RAM? What will get the highest clocks for the money?

I have been hearing that the ballistix went to crap over the past few months.
I have also been hearing that its is becoming increasingly harder to find D9.

So whats new on the market?
Im in the market, but I need a sweet deal.

D9's are plentiful, it's just the GKX and GMH that are becoming more rare. We're at the end of the hey-day for DDR2 so here is what I'd pick for myself in a pinch.

What do you mean by the end of the hey day? Are DDR2 prices going back up or something? Oh god, I hope its not another Dram price fix thing like what happened in 04-05.

You guys are going to have to fill me in on everything about the RAM market because Ive been away from all of this since a little after I wrote the Ultimate RAM guide sticky.

Back then ballistix were the s*** and D9GMH's were easy to find. I would like to get some D9GKX or something else that will clock well. Like I said though, I need to find the best buy possible.

I'm running the Ocz Reaper 2x1GB DDR2-1066 D9 modules...solid as a rock and backed with first rate customer service if needed.

Mine are the Crossfire Ed. sold out...but there's others with mail in rebates too.

I like how all of those have at least 2.3v evp. I think all of those are D9s so that would be very nice.

I'm a little gun shy as far as bumpin the voltage up..dunno if the crucial D9 issues were made worse my running them at their 2.2v max. My Ballistix fried at 2.1v @ 1066..made me sick. Until I get comfortable I'm going easy on the Reapers @ 2.0v and keeping 5-5-5 timings @ 1066MHz for now. Of course that is subject to change..muahaha..

Im not shy at all. You should see the pile of dead hardware I have from too much voltage. I have a bunch of old socket 378 processors, a few lga775 chips, a whole pile of RAM and 2 or 3 motherboards. The only LGA processors that I have pumped extreme voltage into and still survived till today are a celey d at 2.8ghz and a p4 at 3.4ghz. That p4 is currently at 4.5ghz. lol

Thought about that one, then, I couldn't think of a better way to use my old rig than give it to my dad! It was either give him the p4 with the 6800 in it, or give him the p2@350mhz and a geforce 4 pci mx440! He likes the p4 better...

But, as for ram, I like my corsair dominatrix. It doesn't get much better than 4 gigs of ram, plus ram cooling fans for $100!

DDR2 is on it's way out. The only reason why DDR2 is cheap is because companies wanted to dump it fast so they could put more R&D into DDR3 and DDR5. When Nehalem gets released, watch the shift happen really fast. Try to buy good DDR ram these days... it's all just overstock and grossly overpriced. DDR2 will get to that point twice as fast.
