Here's a Crysis shot this is set to 8X AA in the game, all on high at 1680 X 1050 it's early in the game so I figured it would be quick for someone to duplicate, my only problem with this is that when you save a screen shot as a jpg to maintain a good file size it hurts the quality a little

I reset CCC and re-opened Civ, I took a hit but I'm still double what the 260 was I'm not at 90FPS and I think AA is on because it looks much smoother

What is the FPS secon on Crysis at 8x
I notice a slow down ay 2x with my 4870 I will have to check out my settings and are you running DX 10 or DX 9 Crysis is the only relevant game since the 4870 destroys everythin else. I mean really who cares if you get 100 or 150 FPS as long as you can play with seetings all the way up. I have noticed a huge diference from my 8800GTX Just saving for a second one now |

dunno if crysis is such a good test, granted i side with the point that its is difficult to compare with other games/benches. crysis was coded for nvidia card (or leans towards them more than ATI) so this does leave a bit of an advantage on the nvidia side.
but then the ATi may out perform nvidia still, this is really hard to find something that doesnt favour one company over the over. |

I agree at first release.
ATI has had ample time with this game to optimize there drivers. 8.8 addresses Crysis and they are still a lot of things not addressed as of yet reading the driver release notes. There is room for improvement from both nVidia and ATI AKA AMD I still have to beleive that right now Crysis is still the bar for gaming proformance. I beleive in October when Far Cry 2 is released there may be a new bar for all vidieo cards to be judged but for now Crysis is the hardest game to render on high settings and eye candy turned on the 4870 even crushes Grid with everything turned on but it is yet another new release that blew off DX 10 |

yeh i see your point, i think on of the things that need fixing is the corssfire scailing, crysis used to only ever run on of however many ATI cards you had, now you get the odd area that doesnt/does use more than one card.
i have heard that the 4870 handle the AA in crysis better then the nvidia cards which would be interesting to see if ti is true but other than that i dont think there will be much in it. |

This is with the 8.7 driver.
I would like to see these numbers with the new drivers. ATI has gained some ground with this revision I can tell from the game play that it is smooter and faster. But you are right the scaling for CF on Crysis is a joke. If ATI ever wants to really be a contender with a dual card solution they need to make it scale in all games View Full Size |

i think they will concentrate on dual core single card solutions, i think the reason for this will be that you can have a small machine (eg micro ATX) hooked up to your TV and be able to play the games well through that and not have to worry about the huge machine you have to build to get the same performance with a multicard system (eg ATX) as they will need a smaller PSU (i think they do any way nver use an X2 GPU before) and have alot less fans in there gerating less noise. amoung other things

I agree the next step is to have two cores on one die.
and then four It will have to go the way of the CPU with die shrinks and multi GPUs on the same die to keep scaling the way they are. If not they will have to start building Two thousand watt power supplies by 2010 and the fans to cool them will have to be four slot solutions. We may see nVidia with two core on one die by mid next year as they can't seem to have a good dual core card solution. Theirs have always been 2 PCBs smashed together and they are hot hot hot |

heat will always be an issue in future computing, even at stock alot of cards when being worked hard rapidly climb toward 80+*C evan with superb airflow so until they get the heat issues of silicon sorted out we wil only see so much.
i do hope they start getting dual core die like CPUs this would aloow ATi to apply the know how with dual core board to put 2 dual core GPU on one board essentially making a quad graphics solution. and if the rumours are ture that ATI are planning 8 core graphics systems a quad board wold be ideal for the majority of situations where more power is required by just adding one board for and extra 4 core. |

That sounds like it would kick some serious butt
I hope it is sooner rather than later I would mind taking an Octo core Radeon out for a spin |
