Um ya Ad-Aware? That was one of the first.

AVG is good at removing everything. Norton AV is excellent at identifying things, not very good at removal.

Updated again. I added sophos anti virus if anyone cares and put in a couple more tips in the The reason your Spyware/Virus is not being removed section. Like auto starting spyware and Updating your av/as software.

Additional Comment:
Also added the Proccess Assasin link to CodeWeasel's project site. Awesome tool. And the Browser section. Im going to put in a couple things about the latest browsers and their security levels.

Additional Comment:
Well let me know what you guys think of the browser section.

I also use a handy program called strun, seen here...

http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/strun.html

It's a very small, simple, effective, startup manager, so you don't have to mess around in the registry by hand...it's helpful because most spyware adds itself to startup via one of the various registry entries, and because its small, I keep it on my USB drive along with hijack this and a-squared, and spybot s&d to quickly do a check of other's pc's.

Sorry for the Double post but i havent said anything since October.

Spyware guide version two has been started. Though i would love to port some of it over but i cant because i started it from scratch. I copied some stuff over and am focusing on advanced stuff that isnt related to using specific AS/AV software. Mainly i will explain backups, firewalls, and other means of preventing total system failure. Plus i will touch on th registry a bit more and how to back it up correctly (not only on XP but on vista as well). Also i want to add several more resources to help you find more info about the vast majority of free and non free AS/AV programs to help you choose what is best for your computer. Right now im wondering if i should stray from common browsers and talk about the vast majority of selections out there (not just IE, firefox, and Opera. Plus i want go into each browser more specifically not just give you guys biased opinions like before. Let me know how you feel about this. It is extremely important to me.

And sorry about the delay. I did promise a new update in late april early may, but it has been pushed back due to other things going on irl.

I've been hearing alot of good things about the following two free malware/spyware programs. Maybe we could add these to your list.

Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware (MBAM)
http://www.besttechie.net/tools/mbam-setup.exe

and

SUPERAntiSpyware (SAS)

I would like to add that Combofix + Malware Bytes, are a deadly combination and will destroy most of the new virus/spyware combos. Such as the most current and annoying as f*** antivirus virus, which puts porn links on your desktop, pops up 1000 warnings saying you have a virus and to buy their MicroAV (or whatever) program to get rid of it, which IF you buy it, does absolutely nothing. It also hijacks your net browsers and a billion other things.

Running Combofix then Malware bytes full scans in this order will get rid of it downright and they also usualy catch a few other things that other programs will not.

Edit: Sorry I just noticed someone else mentioned Malware Bytes, but I would like to mention that running Malware Bytes alone will not fix everything on some viruses (IE, Antivirus Virus) So the combination of Combofix + Malware Bytes is a MUST HAVE.

Combofix should NOT be run without some sort of supervision as it is known to mash ones OS.

Very rarely, though I don't deny it CAN happen.
