Bricked my 4870
It worked ok and then wanted to reboot, so I did and after that, nothing. People have said to use the USB drive to flash the card - but how am I supposed to do this? Step by step - nothing is too detailed as I seem to be missing a point - if they card won't start, how can I flash it? |

I have an 8800GT, which I'm on now.
My puter'll run with it fine, obviously. What I don't understand is what are the steps of getting this 4870 flashed? Do leave the 8800 in and let the program run at boot, wait for it to get to the "PRess Yes To Flash" or whatever, unplug my monitor from the 8800, pull it out and swap in the 4870, hit go and let it do it's thing? |

put your 4870 in your PCIe slot. Install a PCI video card so you can use its video out while you are flashing the 4870. You can use onboard video for this also.

What guide, Splave?
Well, I do have the Flash drive set as the primary boot device. It's all starting to come together... Put the .bin and ATIFlash on the USB drive. Put the 8800 in my secondary PCIe slot and the 4870 in the primary. Boot the computer and let the flash program run and tell it to flash the 4870. Correct? Additional Comment: **** it. I'm going to take it back to Micro Center tonight after work and exchange it. Last edited by CybrSlydr : 11-14-2008 at 04:03 AM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost |

that sucks you just ruined a brand new card. Flashing the bios is risky even with solid power.. Warranty VOID.. hopefully your retailer will take it back

The return policy states that it has to be in "Like New" condition.
As such, "Like New" means the complete product in the original carton with all equipment, packaging, warranties, manuals and accessories. I'll just tell 'em I plopped it in, plugged it in and the fans would spin but it wouldn't boot. I still have my receipt, so I don't think they'll give me much trouble. Plus, I purchased it yesterday, it's not like I'm coming back 3 weeks after I bought it. |

yeah not like you walk in and say "I bought this card yesterday, took it home, attempted to flash the bios...now its not working? You idiots...give me another one!" I dont think that would be the rite approach. Sometimes a little white lie can save you. Although you should feel bad, or not?

Alrighty - got the new card. It's a different one. Says Visiontek but it's an Asus card. The first one I had came with dual fans, 1 DVI, 1 HDMI and S-Video. This has 2 DVI and one S-Video and only a single fan.
