peltier cooler 136.8W

heya,

this is my first post here, but i am looking to make a cooling plate from 5mm plate of copper or alley, and i have got 2 136.8w peltier coolers off ebay for AU$24 including shipping,

i had thought about cooling,

and i have some old p4 478 coolers lying around here, the ones with the copper core, i was wondering if that would be enough cooling...

thoughts?

thanks

Welcome aboard. To answer your question in short, air coolers cannot effectively dissipate the amount of heat coming from the hot side. You'll need watercooling.

Here is the sticky for TECS: http://forums.extremeoverclocking.co...ad.php?t=36894

hi,

i was wondering, how hot will the hot side get with a 136.8w peltier?

the fans i have are genuine intel fans with copper cores, so they can move some heat.

the problem is i dont want to water cool it, i want to air cool it.

genuine intel HSF's couldnt keep an ice cube cool. on that note, i highly doubt a True would even cool that hot side.

The problem that arises is that you have to cool not only the CPU but also the heat of the tec. So assuming you are using a 65w CPU at stock speeds with a 136.8w tec, that's 201.8 watts of heat to dissipate and a stock 478 cooler is going to fail miserably.

heya,
im sorry but i think you have mistaken what i am trying to do, i am not trying to cool a cpu, i am making a cooling plate, the p4 hsf's are to cool the peltiers, not to cool a processor. so the cool side of the peltier will be on a copper or alley plate, and the hot side will be on the p4 hsf's

i hope this clears things up

well how are you going to cool that plate? once that area of the plate reaches a high enough temperature, the cold side will warm up. temperature on the cold side is directly related to the temperature on the hot side. the colder the hot side, the colder the cold side, and vice versa

the cold side of the peltier, and the hot side of the peltier will be cooled by the 2 478 p4 hsf

all i want to do is create a cold plate of metal

the image (a bad one) is a mock up of what i want to make

if you're not using the cold plate for a CPU, go for it

fixed for Trey

Go through the forum sections and there's OBVIOULY a fitting section for laptops. Or just go to intel OCing or air cooling.

TBH even I wouldn't do this for a laptop. Get get it on a hard surface and it'll be okay

The best thing you can do for your laptop is undervolt it. That will yield the largest gains. I dropped over 10C on my two HP laptops running Turion processors.
