Is AV OS Specific? As in 32bit or 64bit?

And if so what is the best for 64bit? I am on Vista 64. I heard Kaspersky was good but is anything wrong with good ole AVG? I don't see the option to download a 64bit version of AVG though so will this hurt anything?

You will have no problems running 32bit, but I would try Avast or Comodo before AVG.

I'm not too fond of either Comodo or AVG. Avast or Avira I can recommend but Microsoft has a beta Security Essentials that you can find a download link if you put it in Google since they closed the beta and it runs quite well.

64 or 32, does not matter at all. a virus file is a virus file. if there is 2 different versions, like a 32 and 64 bit for norton, then of course get which ever your os is. 64 will run faster in a 64 environment.

essentially, all antivirus software are pretty close. they all detect very well, and will offer protection in the similar range. avast is good, kaspersky, nod32, norton, mcafee, microsoft one, etc. avast and nod32 are particularly very light on resource, so if ur computer isnt the greatest, they will appeal more to you. norton has a gaming version of their av, but they are extremely expensive, and i see no point spending $100 on one antivirus license for only 12 months. specially when threats are minimal if you use your computer right.

AVG Free user for 4 years now, and its never let me down. Maybe not the best AV out there, but it does its job effectively and at minimal cost to system resources.

There are no differences, the AV's that I have come across that have got a 64bit version are:

- Eset Smart Security/NOD 32
- Agnitum Outpost Security Suite
