I'm trying it out in Win7 RC seems light on resources not real intrusive.I don't know how good it's detection rate is as I don't really have too many unsafe habits. We'll see as we go along.

I'm running it on Win 7 Pro retail and WinXP Pro and would agree, it seems to be light on resources and *not* invasive as others are. Quick scan is indeed quick too. So far I'm a happy camper.

MSE is a good free AV but it's not the best, it does miss a quite a few viruses, but not one AV can detect everything.

It is decent, if you like it, stick with it but I'm a happy Kaspersky guy here.

For those running this, go to the EICAR website and download their test virus. Not really a virus, just a string of characters to similate one. If this program works like it should, it should intercept it during download, my SAV catches it everytime and blocks it. Read happily and scroll towards the bottom for the test file...

That's what an AV is meant to do, it's obviously not going to let you download the file to your hard drive and then remove it.

That's the whole reason of realtime protection.

The problem is it's a very well known test and Eset Clearly determined it's not a virus but a harmless test.
in reality any anti-virus maker is going to make sure that it's AV can detect these tests.

I am just giving it a go on some of my non-work rigs. It seems to do fine for my stuff, but when i am hooking peoples infected drives into my comp, i always do it on my kaspersky box(or when my suse install was up i would use that).

I think of this as about as good as AVG free, i am very impressed considering it comes from MS.

I think a combination of this, MBAM and Spyware Blaster should be a decent free trifecta.

I am definitely liking it over AVG free now, and that is whats on most my customers rigs that have free AV. Lots went to kaspersky internet security when it was 20$ for 3 users.

Anyhow, its definitely worth a go for a free AV. It doesn't offer as comprehensive protection as KIS( i wont say norton or any of them cuz i NEVER use them) but what do you expect for 0.00
