David... Find me a cheap PSU!
I'm on a super tight budget, so I need a decent PSU that can power these: Opteron 144 DFI nF4 Ultra 2x DDR3200 RAM GTX 260 (Yes, I know the 260 is overkill, but w/e. The 260 was free anyway.) Only the CPU/RAM will be heavily overclocked, so I need something that can power that 260 and a OC'ed opty while costing less than $50. Can you find me one? ![]() Thanks! |

I'm not david
, but your price range doesn't give you very much to work with. You would probably be looking at something similar to this. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817171038 Just the price is a little over. |

I know my price range won't give you much to work with, but then again, that's why I am asking David! He understands the +amperage required on the 12V+ rails better than I do, and he has consistently found excellent PSUs for very good prices for others, so...
That one looks promising. If David gives his stamp of approval (remember, the CPU will be very heavily OC'ed, I plan to go right to the edge of no return), then I'm getting it. |

The GTX260 does about 12A assuming you don't overclock it. I can't imagine a 939 chip pulling more than 150W at a huge overclock, so this PSU really will barely make it at full load. Since it's a PCPC unit, it should handle its rated wattage well. Although, you will still get suggestions telling you to buy something more expensive from people who don't understand the concept of a budget. |

Deluded, the PSU that onewecallgod linked is probably a better choice than mine, I recommend you go that way instead. |

I doubt you will find a high quality psu for under $50 that has a power output of at least 550W. Lets see if this thread has any psus for you: ... where's davids psu guide?

![]() With the OC'ed CPU & a 260 you need something on the order of +12V@40 as a minimum which is Corsair 520HX, 550VX terrtory. $60 AMIR: CORSAIR CMPSU-550VX 550W ATX12V V2.2 $60 AMIR: ENERMAX PRO82+ EPR525AWT 525W ATX12V Ver.2.3 There are some other PSU's that "might do" but with an OC'ed Otpy & a GTX260, no these are the least expensive I could find & not be concerned that someone would put them in a similar system & come back complaining 6-months later. David, i know that this isnt the HX series... but wouldn't this fit the bill(still a little to expensive but worth it to not replace the psu and possibly other parts from cheaping out)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817139004 corsair 550W, 41A 12V rail SHOULD handle that system, should edit, i guess david already recommended it, my bad. Go with corsair, they are great psu's |

No, I do not mind an MIR. I like the mushkin PSU, so I'm getting that.
I really don't have the money to buy an more expensive PSU, hence my restriction. This one good? Thanks a lot guys, as usual, you're the best! |

**edit** I do see a 500W requirement for the GTX260. So some of the higher end 450W+ units or a cheaper built 550W+ unit would work. I cant believe the requirements for these beasts. |

Newer video cards are quite the contradictors..... made on a smaller nm process claiming less power consumption, but still considered power hogs?

They offset the gains of using a smaller process transistor by cramming more transistors in.
