Power supply recommendation - Urgent!
I am about to buy a power supply and need to make sure it has enough power to do what I intend to achieve. Please let me know your recommendation or thought. Thanks Will a 700W PS enough to overclock my 2.4MHZ Q6600 to 3.4MHZ with ATI 4850 graphic card, 4gb DDR3 10333 memory on GA-EP45T-DS3R Motherboard? I am looking at buying this OCZ StealthXStream OCZ700SXS 700W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready Active PFC Power Supply. |

I recommend a higher quality Corsair, PC P&C or Seasonic. Given your OC'ing & for any single GPU video card a Corsair 620X or 650W would be fine & stll leave you with room to grow. A Corsair 750W or PC P&C 750W would be the highest I would recommend. |

It is the +12V amperage that is always the question. Without OC'ing I would have recommended a Corsair 520HX or 550W which is a minimum of +12V@40A, but because we have an extreme OC'er, i recommended a 620HX or 650HX/TX, with a minimum of +12V@50A. And just because many people always want lots of headroom a max of a Corsair or PC P&C 750W, which have a minimum of +12V@60A. OCZ markets several different lines of PSU's & the quality ranges from excellent to average, Corsair, PC P&C & Seasonic on the other hand only offer excellent PSU's, thus they have earned their recommendations. I have been using Corsair 620HX's, since "before" they were available for retail (Corsair sent me a 520HX & 620HX for testing way back when) and have always had excellent results! |

I totally agree, my pc p&c is going on 3 years old and by far the best PSU Ive used, it's rock stable even after multiple power surges, as far as I've heard Corsair and seasonic are top of the line also. |

Its really hard to recommend an OCZ because of the problems that have been reported lately. I do believe they will stand behind their product if it fails, but its not a hassle you want to go through. Although I do not follow my own advice, I think the PSU is where you should splurge. a quality PSU will outlast any system until they change the ATX connector... Get a corsair/BFG/seasonic/etc and it will probably last 5+ years and multiple computer builds.
I have an OCZ 600w and its working fine thus far, i also got a OCZ 700w on the way (it was only $6!) so we'll see how they hold up... |

I highly recommend Silverstone psus. I've had my Silverstone Strider 1000 watt for around 3 years or more and it runs great never had any issues with it.
