I have a extreme 850 watt ocz that died on me out of nowhere one day it worked and the next day it didn't and that in my file server but I was able to send it back after about 2 years of owning it and they sent me a brand new one in the box and been using it for about a year now but I would recommend Corsair, Silverstone or PC Power & Cooling over OCZ but its still better then many other brands.

OCZ still PWNS customer service!

Now if only the quality of their PPSU's was a little more consistent!

PSU's arrived today, two days flat ain't bad for the cheapest shipping The 36 mo. warranty on the front of the box had a white sticker over it and the upc code on the back had a white sticker over over it with a new upc code on it. It also has Reconditioned stickers on it and the "Warranty Void if Removed" sticker has already been cut so it's been opened up.

SVC must listen, they have added "Recertified by OCZ" to their discriptions, so it should be fine.

But do remember these are not their "super-dooper" GREATEST EVER PSU's, they are about average, so only load to about 60% max. & you shouldn't have any problems.

It appeared to be recertified by them to me by the packaging and stickers. I got a 600w for a friend and an 850w GameXstreme for myself. One cool thing about the 850w is that it has a standard size footprint.

Additional Comment:

It's supposed to have 4 12v rails @ 20 amps. How does that correlate to the cables and how the rails are loaded?

Good questions, we need the model numbers as OCZ may have made some changes.

OCZ850GXSSLI-B

Only has 2x6 pin PCI-E connectors, not even a 6+2.

This is it: http://gear.ocztechnology.com/produc...ed_/index.html

Maximum ratings are shown. The combined output of all 12V rails is 72A at ambient room temperature of 20 C.
OCZ has just told us this is a "sub-standard" unit that cannot produce its rated power in real life. As we do not have the OCZ thermal de-rating chart, I am going to guess that we are are looking at a max combined of about +12V@40A, which is about what we expect from a good 500W to 550W PSU, so as long as you load it, as if it were a 500W/550W PSU it should serve you well.

Case cooling, lots of case cooling is going to be the key to happy co-existence with this PSU.

lol, it was cheap! It's a backup/tester so should be fine.

Additional Comment:

So to answer the OP, these are the crap OCZ PSU's.

Of course I would even be suspicious of the nonsensical 72A(864w) continuous combined +12v output claim. I thought this was only a 850w rated PSU with a max combined 3.3v, 5v, 12v rating of 823w per the specification label or 825w per the manual! OCZ can't even figure out the correct specs.

Unless you do your testing in a meat locker, no one will ever know!

I used to have a rig almost exaxtly the same as the one in my sig except for it had a E8400 and a 8800GT and a OCZ GameXstream and it performed well.I am not as informed a Davidhammock in regards to Power supplies bit I got a great deal used for $60.00 used and jumped on it.

However I do refer to his excellent guides. Its the little things with P/S such as grade of materials, customer service and testing that give it a overall picture about P/S.

Rihrt now I use a PC Power and cooling 850 SSI turbo which is a beast still ans good warranty. Its huge too like 9" long and wieghs a ton. It also was a earlier model with 5 12V rails compared to newer ones with 1 large one which has proven to be more efficient but I paid $100.00 for it with 3 years warranty which was honored when broken and they repaired it no question asked.

Thanls to Davids many threads on power supplies those who havent got a clue can figure out what they need, warranty support and purchase a P/s that will work well, for this Mr Hammock I thank you.

I have seen too many folks not put enough thought in a good P/S and are sorry later, newer hardware needs higher quality P/S and I hate to see new builds using inferioir P/S

Wow, thank you very much. It is great to know that you have helped & that your efforts are appericated, however I must in turn thank the many EOC members & guest who are really part of a very large team that makes the possible. With special thanks to Jason & our Mods who make this all possible, our Chief Engineer Mr. Scott, Jonny Guru, OKW, JW, & Paul@[H], just to name a few. With out their active assistance, we would all be stumbling around in the dark.

Many Thanks,
Dave
