Bit of a late post, but for those of you getting is cheap with .edu address', you can get it for free if your school is a member of msdnaa. I got both the 32bit and 64bit Win7 Pro's for free.

Speaking of which, does anyone know if the serial for the 64bit version will work with a 32bit install?

With Vista the serial key is what determined what kind of version you were installing whether it was Home Premium, Business editions etc.. and also if it was 32-bit or 64-bit I believe.

Regardless, if you buy the 32bit version or the 64bit version, MS should send you a copy of the version that you don't have for only shipping.

not for retail copies of Vista, the key works for both 32 and 64 bit, it does determine whether you have Home Premium, Business, etc though.

Retail has both versions on the disc though correct?

I thought the key was specific to the kernel as well as the edition.

Nope, just the edition, from everything I've read (although I have not personally tried it I must admit).

Works the same as in Vista - all cd keys will work for either 32 or 64 bit, they are only EDITION specific.

just did the upgrade to W7 home premium. works flawlessly on my dell 1520 laptop. My school just switch email services, so i have 2 .edu email addresses.

Considering putting it on my netbook, but the 8gb SSD is the only thing really making me rethink things.

I think I asked this earlier, but it may have been in another Win 7 thread... Anyone getting the .edu discount via their email that cannot prove class enrollment? Do they even ask? I have all the requirements except current enrollment, and to enroll would cost me more than just buying the software at full retail.

They do not ask for any proof of enrollment/classes. All you need is your .edu email.

That would be lying, with the ultimate intention of stealing.

This is true, I was just answering his question. I, myself, am a currently enrolled student who got the win 7 student deal.
