Have G.Skill 5-5-5-15 DDR2-1066 sticks in my computer now. I know my memory will NOT be a limiting factor for me when overclocking my CPU. And the timings are more than acceptable for memory of this speed. And since I was able to get them (a 2x2GB kit) for under $80 at the time, it was smooth sailing for me on that front. |

Here's the deal...imo.....not everyone is going to notice the "big" difference between ddr2 and ddr3...but there is an awesome improvement when it comes to overclocking and gaming....proper balance of latencies and mhz....for example when i game i prefer 1280-1300mhz 5-5-5-15-1t...for max game quality....in crysis i tend to use 1800-1900mhz at 10-11 latencies for max speed......~10% improvement in frames per second......so to me it seems either go cheap...or buy some serious overclocking ram...(reapers, tridents, dominators) at as fast of speeds as you can afford.
Additional Comment: so if you're the kind of person that judges oc'ing stability by testing in a game.....YOU WILL LOVE DDR3 Last edited by Errectus : 10-28-2009 at 10:32 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost |

i still use ddr2 only cause i had my heart set on the asus rampage formula when i built my machine. but i have 8gb ocz platinum pc8500 running at 1333mhz, and its way fast it runs great with the rest of my hardware. although the next time i build it will be i7 and i will go ddr3, i have seen some insane overclocking numbers on ddr3 and i wanna see what i can do.

When we get to DDR5 in a couple of years then we will see the difference,
as that should again double the bandwidth, but until then, meh
