That doesn't even make any sense.

The OS is your Operating System, between the BIOS (Basic Input Output System) &
OS they control things like the keyboard, mouse, HDD's, monitor, etc, etc, etc.

ADDED:

Without an OS, where do you intend to store the language? Type on what? You won't have a monitor to see anything with.

What are you confused about? I want to compile and run C++ on a Fermi card. I also mentioned I didn't see why people wanted to convert and run an OS on Fermi. Then you became confused for no reason.

What are you babbling about? I just want to run C++ on Fermi; It doesn't require a Ferm-compatible OS. Think GPU-acceleration of F@H in a Windows environment.

By design it is a very "narrow" architecture & can only perform in MPPA's, a single core Fermi would be pretty useless, although it has a great future in graphics & MPPA's, it has no future as a general purpose computer.

Ditto ... and it should run on our motherboard, hopefully it lives up to expectations.

Actually I am looking forward to the i3's which are the Core 2 Duo replacements, as I am in a quandary with many business clients.

For most business applications 4-core CPU's offer no real advantages, either with current software or any announced future software, so 1156's & 1366's with their current CPU's are not selling well in today's tight market.

I do not want to recommend an EOL product like the 775, but for many there is little choice,
but again clients are waiting for the Core 2 Duo replacements.

This would be an excellent opportunity to offer AMD X2's, except the press has killed AMD over the past few of years for failing to compete against the Core 2 Duo & failing again to compete against the i7's & now for failing to compete against the i5's. Many "executive decision makers" will not even allow AMD CPU's to be introduced into the conversation for corporate desktop systems. In their mind, except for high throughput servers, AMD does not even exist. The press has done a pretty good job of conveying the message that AMD = Failure!

So now you can see why I, my clients & scores of people like me are waiting for Intel's new mid-range dual-core CPU's.

All I want for Christmas are about 500 Intel dual core i3's that fit the P55 mobos!
Dave

ADDED:

Of course I wouldn't object if those $100 P55 mobos had IGP's either!

well its a tad on the outlandish side or pratical for desktop computing but it exist none the less the polaris or better know as the terra flops research chip from Intel's Terra scale computing research program 80 cores!!!!!!! up to almost 2 terra flops per second!!!!!

Frequency Voltage Power Aggregate Bandwidth Performance 3.16 GHz 0.95 V 62W 1.62 Terabits/s 1.01 Teraflops 5.1 GHz 1.2 V 175W 2.61 Terabits/s 1.63 Teraflops 5.7 GHz 1.35 V 265W 2.92 Terabits/s 1.81 Teraflops

ASCI Red was the first computer to benchmark at a teraflops (1996). That system used nearly 10,000 Pentium® Pro processors running at 200MHz and consumed 500kW of power plus an additional 500kW just to cool the room that housed it. Although not a general purpose computing device, this Teraflops Research Chip delivers 1.0 teraflops of performance and 1.6 terabits aggregate core to core communication bandwidth, while dissipating only 62W. (cited from intel)

the only reason its on a mass scale is they would never have to make another chip it would just make everything else obsolete i mean a terraflop at just 62 watts and almost 2 @ 265 . Just think about a F@H farm of these babys.

another reason I'm looking forward to Arrandale:

"it will be the first Intel product to put two processor cores and a graphics function together in the same chip package" - meaning if I get that in a laptop, plus a dedicated graphics card, whenever I am not in gaming mode, the integrated graphics chip can take over and save me lots of power and battery life.
sounds more than tempting.
