CPU Fan always @ 2900RPM

Looking in HWMonitor i see my CPU fan is always running at 2900RPM

I have P5Q Pro and haven't touched any of the fan-control settings, they are all on auto.

@ Idle i'm 29c on both cores.
@ Load it never crosses 59-60c using large FFT Prime test.

Thanks for any pointers.

It's possible your mobo defaults to max speed for your CPU fan. Check out the BIOS settings and see if you can't adjust it to PWM quiet behavior or the likes.

For poops and giggles, what's the rest of your system?

Pretty nice system there. Although I would suggest a beefier HSF for the CPU if you want to get much higher without temps being a problem.

If you haven't already, definitely check out the BIOS options for the fan. See what's available and try setting it manually instead of leaving it on AUTO. I never trust AUTO to get the job done right.
