Bummer, the i7 rigs destroy AMD for cpu folding. The i7 can do the bigadv flag which is like 50k points per WU or 16K PPD. It takes about ~3 days to do a WU.

Also 8 years ago Lisa was an AWESOME machine, I had a very similar build to that. Socket A was so cool back then. I've since switched to intel for the performance.

Not to try and hijack a thread, but if i put the -bigadv flag, i can increase what my i7 is doing? Imma have to try that. Thanks for inadvertently teaching me something, as i'm still new to the folding scene myself

To use the -bigadv flag you need to setup a passkey with standford, and have at least 10WU's under your username.

Right now only linux will allow for the use of bigadv, but I just run it in a VM, as long as you have 6GB of ram, and an i7 (w/HT enabled you need 8cores, or 4 cores with HT) you can run it.

If you need help with bigadv, make a thread we'll help ya.

Ya I read all about the i7 but intel and Apple both are on my S list and have been for decades. Same with ATI but if I want an AMD mobo I gotta go ATI for the sync with video unless I'm misunderstand how this works. Kinda dumb but whatever.

I miss Lisa and may try to resurrect her as a workhorse for folding. Getting tough to find parts that old.

Thanks a bunch. I'm plannin on a few dedicated folding rigs, and if i don't go diskless, i'll need os's for them. I'm not gonna pay for all those copies of winders, instead use linux.

From what I've read AMD is in talks with Apple about something or another.

Good to see another old member come back to the forums!

I mean if I want an AMD chipset mobo vs a nVidia chipset mobo. Meaning, ATI doesn't support xfire via nVidia and nVidia doesn't support SLI via AMD. That's how it was explained anyways.
