How to drop CPU temperatures 5-10 degrees C

Upon receiving Cuplex HD water block I noticed the layer of copper in between the CPU is too thick - about 2 millimeters.

I used a rasp to file it down, which took 3 hours, afterwards polishing the surface to a mirror finish with Monkey Jam premium axle polish. The block is now 0.6 millimeter thick. I installed the block and noticed the temperature was ten degrees hotter. However, after removing the block I could see that there was not enough thermal paste, as I ran out.

I suspect the temperature will drop at least 5-10 degrees when newly ordered Arctic Cooling MX-3 thermal compound arrives. Let me know if anyone wants an update on my temps.

Idle: Load:

Stock Temperatures: 67 85
Air cooling with OCZ Freeze: 62 79
Water cooling passive*: 55 77
Water cooling 50 GPH: 43 62
Water cooling 500 GPH: 52 72
Estimated temp with MX-3: 35 53
Estimated final temp**: 28 45

*passive: with no pump or fan
**final temp is with custom made thermal compound

Note: I am not planning on using fan in order to eliminate noise. I also do not think a fan is necessary.

my school of thought is that if the making the sink thinner would drop 10C then the manufactures would have made it that way, not saying that it will hurt you too much, but it i don't think you will achieve dramatic results. you're decrease in temperature is more likely due to lapping the sink so that you have a flat surface (which then you should lap your processor as well.)

re:note: if you are comfortable with higher temps then ok, but having a really slow fan that is silent will make a dramatic difference in temps. im not suggesting you go by delta's and throw them on there, just something really quite. i can understand if space is an issue however.

Additional Comment:

and i would like to see your final temps, i would be interested if you prove me wrong.

With the key statment above bolded you prolly just increased the temps by 5-10*C, metal polish is the WORST thing you can do when lapping a block.
