CD Problem
Running a Plextor PX 880sa in my rig. Win 7 he os. Cd works but have to start it by going into my computer and check it. Main problem is when I eject the disc it still shows up as being there. Only way to clear it, is to reboot. Have apps and games that take two disc's to load up but cannot get it to acknowledge second disc as still showing 1st disc and keeps stating install 2nd disc but not responding when I install it. Is there a win setting I'm overlooking? Device manager not showing any problems. D/Led some updated firmware for it but was initially working so don't want to mess with it unless have to. Any ideas ![]() Thanks Later

Normally CD drives just work, I'd replace the Plextor, to me this is not normal behavior.

The only thing causing problems, might be a faulty cable, but that's a long shot, even though I could be wrong, I think the problems with the drive. The easiest way to check it is by installing another drive and seeing if you have the same problems, you could try the dvd drives properties. I've been using win7 a couple of years, I've never had cd drive problems.

Sounds like the drive to me also, if you dont have a backup drive, you can take an iso of the 2nd disk and mount it using daemon tools, when asked to insert the 2nd disk.

Maybe a trip to the drive MFG website for possible firmware update.

Like I stated already D/L'ed an updated firmware update and will apply it if not an invertant software setting. Worked before so should work without update. Always had good luck with Plextors but everything fubars eventually. If no go will get another Plextor. ![]() Thanks for info and suggestions. Footnote; Egg'ed it for a Sammy as firmware update didn't work so we'll see. Later ![]() Additional Comment: Hi, Recieved the new Optical DVD, installed it and doing the same thing the old Plextor was doing. Tried new Sata cable-power lead and no joy. Got a Samsung this time. Pretty sure now this is a software or conflict problem. Shows as working fine and no problems in devise manager and hardware properties.(Ya Rite )Any more ideas or suggestions? Hate the word (Reload) ![]() Later

Hi,
Read my mind as going to start trying to get back in there. Pretty intensive water cooling setup and a pain. ![]() Board has two sata6g ports and was using one of them for the DVD drive. Worked before and they are backward compatible. Have a Sata 2 port open and will try that. Just may put the old Plextor back in as have 1 more bay left and if can figure out this problem will have two DVD drives. Running out of ideas. Thanks ![]() Later ![]() Additional Comment: Hi, New Samsung working now ![]() Took it off the Sata3 port and put it on Sata2 along with Sata 2 cable. Although have researched extensively difference between the two cables and no difference except possible cable lock which both my 2 and 3 version have. Put old Plextor back in spare bay as can run two drives. Powers up-ejects but win (doesn't) recognize it. Have to work on that as sure was not bad. Thanks for info and help. ![]() Later

I've had problems like this. If you've ever used a Virtual DVD program, such as Poweriso/Magic ISO, i've noticed Win7 doesnt like that, and it always leave an imprint. It can mess with stuff :S

Thanks for info. Never loaded a DVD program like those and wouldn't know where to locate them. Could be some loaded app on here is causing problems. Just glad I got one of the DVDs to work. Keep working on trying to get the 2nd to show up and work. Really don't need two DVDs on here, but hey, may want to burn some music and listen to music on the other one. ![]() May try another port for that one. Thanks Later ![]() Footnote: Fixed. Don't know what did it, but Reload, new cable, different Sata port and Bios change. Oh well, backup Burner now. Needed a reload anyway. Later Last edited by jaykar : 08-23-2011 at 02:01 PM. |
