PSU Causing folding problems?
pc specs: I7 950 OC to 4.0 Ghz (Was higher but backed it off because of above problem) Gpu : gtx 470 OC 800 Mhz 2 HDD in raid 0 PSU is a corsair 850 AX (modular/gold) I have another 470 that I will add to the pc soon i just need to get this issue figured out. Updated drivers which did not seem to help Any ideas? Im starting to think i might be pulling too much power? I mean in sli maybe but even single card? Additional Comment: Note: No blue screen or other error msg appears the screens just go black as if you ripped out the dvi cable. Last edited by Flying freak : 02-24-2012 at 07:36 PM. Considering I only pull less than 650W at the wall with my setup, which draws a lot more power than yours, I doubt your PSU is the issue....

Is the 470 overclocked? if so back it off.
I'd switch the 470's aswell to see if the card is at fault. |

I suspect the motherboard chips are getting too hot. Try targeting fans on Northbridge and Southbridge chips.

I would agree with jim,it sounds very much like a NB/SB chip overheating. Happened to me a couple times in the past. I've OCed a pair of gtx-295s which are power hogs even before cranking them up. Between them and an OCed i7-870, I was only drawing 730-750W. OCZ makes very good PSU so would give it a bit more credit than many other brands, but any PSU can fail.
Something I always recommend is a device called "kill a watt". For $25 or so it's an amazing device for reading power draw and measuring electricity useage and whatnot. http://www.google.com/products/catal...ed=0CFcQ8wIwAg |

What are your power saving settings? Something might have changed with the last drivers which causes a card to go into a lower PMU state, and I seen reports from people who fail work unit's which are started when in this lower power savings mode.l

This actually helped a lot , Thanks. Im able to now run most of most days computer runs well with most 'normal' applications. FAH still does not play nice with more intense software like inventor/autocad/soldworks/mastercam. So i must stop it when running those. |
