I have to say and admit that I was a stubborn AMD fan for over a decade but the smartest thing I've done lately was put my hard earned money towards the 2600K. At this price, it should be a deal maker for you. Sure it games well but SHINES when I'm batch processing 1,200 RAW images (about 22GB's) via Adobe Lightroom 3.5 and cuts through them like a hot knife through butter!!!

Ya, sadly AMD isn't really even competition for Intel at the moment. AMD has had it's moments in the past, but right now they aren't really even playing the game. Not sure what they are doing but they are losing on pretty much every front right now.

Is it just me or is this deal too good to be true? If anyone has been reading my thread, I'm possibly in the market for a new CPU, and this is an insane deal, I don't see how they can afford to do this.

Microcenter uses CPU's as their loss leader. They give away cpus at a loss and make their money back on you buying the rest of your system from them.

Anyway, anyone know if this deal works with their current mobo deals found with the 2500k? If so, that's ridiculous!

Well, if this is legitamate, then I am buying from them. I will need a mobo and HSF as well so they will really appreciate that correct? I didn't really poke around on their website, but hopefully their mobo prices are at least competitive.

Not really that surprising though, as the 2600K has been $280 and used to have $80 off with mobo deal. Now they just arent offering the mobo deal with it, so unless you already have a mobo, its not that special yet. 2500K with an open box mobo for $200-$225ish is a much better deal imo.


EDIT: Seems the deal is good with only certain mobos. The Gig Z68X works, and the ASUS LX work, but most others dont. If you can get it with the Z68X open box for ~$275 thats about the best you could get away with.

You can get a gigabyte mobo with the 2500k brand new for like $220. That's what I'm doing in the next week or so since a buddy is buying my q6600 set up.

If only someone would've taken my bets on the GTX 680, I'd have had it all free.

I bought an I7-2600k at MicroCenter on Friday for $200.. Also picked up an Asrock Z77 extreme 4 and a Coolmaster 212+. The motherboard was at a $20 premium compared to NewEgg but if a DOA is involved, a trip to return is cheaper and quicker than mailing back. The HSF came with a $10 rebate.

Assembly and migration will start as soon as the 16Gb of GSkill memory and the 64Gb Criucial SSD arrive next week.

The processor trade off was between L3 cache, hyperthreading vs reported better IGP performance and staying at one step blow the I-7-2600k level and probably $20.

Life is full of compromises. My last system lasted for 5yr and hopefully I'll get 5 more out of the new system.

I would, but you need to think it through. $200 cpu + $16 tax + $9 shipping + $25 hassle fee = $250 cash. Some of the luster is lost. PM if still interested.
