Huge SMP

Anyone else get one of these giant SMP's. i just got a 16,375 point WU! I thought that my SMP core had locked up because im away from my desktop only to find two days later a huge update in points.

I guess the whole folding project is switching gears between this new WU and the new GPU WU

WHOA the p6900 is back!!!! One of my i7's are doing one wtf??? Is this the one you are talking about? I bet they ran into a shortage of these lol. I never thought to turn the -smp flag off, so could be a crazy fluke I suppose.

My computer is chugging away in another state and I have no remote access so I can't get the wu number. Sorry.

I am running -smp though on a phII 955

Additional Comment:

Finally got around to checking my logs. this is the project that i recieved

Project: 10127 (Run 93, Clone 1, Gen 33)

This took 3 days to complete and gave me over 16k points, ultimately it ends up being pretty slim on the PPD, but it makes for a good update on that one day out of 3 lol.

I've only been getting 6097-6099 units since I started folding again. Not doing too bad on them at least.

I was getting these for the longest time and exclusively, once I added the -bigadv flag. Was averaging 21K ppd. Once I removed the -bigadv flag, I started getting smaller WU's and am now averaging 24K ppd. They aren't as great as you would think, unless you have the CPU power to do them, perhaps? That said, my i7 960 is running at 4062 mHz.

Edit (unrelated): @GuitarFreak: Noticed your tag line. I'm going to the May 6th Rammstein show. Should be a blast!

I hit one that took my folding PC 5 days to do (got nearly 13k points with it though)
Was an a3 core, whereas normally my pc gets the a4 core WU's

a3 core is normal SMP, if you are getting a4 then you aren't getting SMP.

I'm lost then, what exactly is an SMP and whats the difference (apart from size) between the a3 and a4 cores?

a3 and a5 cores are SMP. Theses uses all avaliable cores of your cpu.. So on a quad core it'd run at 100% cpu.

An a4 is usually a uniprocess, meaning it only uses 1 core, or 25% of a quad core

Thats strange, I'm running a dual and its running at 100% on both cores, even with the a4.

My set up should be smp only (I know i wrote that somewhere in the file lol) and most of my WU's are a4. Whichever way, cpu runs at 100% all the time

Unfortunately, setting smp or even -bigadv is only a preferance, not a given.

If the server has a4s that need to get done, they will give them out over lesser needed smp.

Yep, my ppd go down approx 8k on average with the a4's. Had one yesterday.

Additional Comment:

These 1012X a3's are effing killing me. Down to ~15K ppd from my former 23K ppd. I even redid my client to prefer small WU's No dice.

I would think folding with all 8 threads at 4 gHz would yield more. *sigh*

EDIT: Just re-added the -bigadv flag and set packets to normal. Crossed my fingers. Just got a 7504 a3. Boo yah!

I know it's not REALLY about the points but sheesh!

Maybe HardForum and EVGA need a contest to see how many WUs can be done in one day. Then, they can send their 4p systems after the smp units instead of the bigadv. I'd do it, but we need the points. Just imagine how many of those of those WUs could be done. I'd say it is a very high number.
