new project

it has been a bit of an odyssey, but i finally got my computer audio project about wrapped up for now....vintage gear i had laying around in storage, and i bought the DAC from the forums at Head-fi.org.

Matrix mini DAC

NAD 2150 power amp

NAD 1020 pre-amp

Polk Audio RTA 11T
Sony MDR-V6 head phones

so far, so good, and 1000 times better than Realtek on-board and Bose Companions....

well, this project snowballed.... which is a good thing for every one concerned except my wallet.

i wasn't happy with the way things ended up sounding for many reasons. so i ended up by rebuilding the crossovers in the 20+ year old Polks using audio-grade Gen1 Sonicaps and Mills resistors, and upgrading the tweeters to a newer, much better Polk replacement tweeter. plus, the poly switch protection in the Xovers for the tweeters were shot and really dampening the highs, so i removed those.
the 50W NAD separates gave way to a newer NAD 50W integrated but still wasn't right. sooo... now it is an Acurus A250 power amp (250W/ch) and a matching Acurus RL-11 discrete circuit preamp, plus the Matrix Mini dac.
i also have a Western Digital MyBookLive personal cloud 1TB drive hooked into the network, onto which i am ripping the hundreds of cd's we all have here...
the new caps and tweeters are not quite burned in yet, but things are sounding large and sweet.... life is good again!
