Can I Still use this psu?
This is running my current setup in my sig. But I would like to strip it down and replace with new hardware. Was looking to keep the case, psu, and hdd/dvd drives. Looking to replace with one of intels new ivy bridge processors/mbs and a nvidia gtx 680 or 670 in the near future. I understand that these new pieces of hardware are more power efficient. Was wondering if I can go more el cheapo and keep a few items to save some $  .

Yeah, you can keep the PSU. Ivy + a new higher end GPU will actually draw more power, but 610w is enough. If you want to OC both, though, I would definitely get a stronger PSU because it will not hold up.

I think that should hold up pretty well, thats a good supply, and your actual load isnt that high, something like 450watts if you keep that rig basic, even with some overclock.

PCP&C is quality stuff. It should work perfectly well, even with mild overclocking I should think. I am running a similar setup to what you are planning with 750 watts, the main difference being a GTX5-series card instead of a GTX-6 series card. The GTX-6 series is much more power efficient, consuming about 40 watts less at full load. Adding to that the fact that my PSU holds up even under heavy overclocking, you should have no problems.

Look at the power supply in my sig, it was purchased in early 2005 for almost $500.00, it is a beast. It weighs a ton, it is large, 9" long and only had 1 hiccup all this time which was fixed under the factory 5 year warranty. However I do break it down every 2 years to clean out any dust that gets in it. I was even considering using it in a new build but I am having second thoughts....
Now it just seems like overkill....... |
