Find anything better than this laptop?
Main specs: 15.5in IPS (1080) i7-3612QM 2.10GHz GeForce GT 640M LE 8GB DDR3 750GB HDD 4.42lbs All this for $1300. Any of you guys know of anything with similar specs in the same price range? List of priorities for me: 1. Weight 2. Screen size 3. Powerrrrrrrrrrr The weight is amazing, the CPU is powerful, the screen is beautiful (saw it in person at Fry's) and it really isn't that pricey. The thing I didn't like was that the chassis felt just ever so slightly flimsy and the keyboard felt meh. |

Check the Laptop forums, but for that price it looks pretty good, don't see Sony laptops very often so I can't really comment, there's always some sort of weakness with just about every laptop, buy that lappy in Aussie add another $1000 bucks. Ha Ha.

Specs look really good, a couple of years ago Sony decided to price their stuff more competitively so that it no longer is overpriced status stuff, and it was a good move. My Sony is over 2 years old no and I have had absolutely zero problems with it. It is running every day and I often convert videos with it so it is often on 100% CPU load for 12 hours non-stop. Well built and beautiful full-HD screen. I see nothing wrong with recommending Sony, among the obviously good ones like Samsung and Asus

Sony are REALLY difficult to upgrade. Also drivers etc are specialized to Sony.

As I said all laptops have weaknesses even the new Samsung gamer is having overheating problems and power brick failures, hopefully these problems will be fixed, it's only just been released.
I also don't like laptops with specialized drivers either as far as upgrading concerned it's difficult to find laptops in the at that price range, that are easily customizable. You would buy Alienware or Clevo based laptops to get that, maybe a MSI, the Samsung gamer is looking like it's not going to be user upgradeable at this point. I make a point of researching any new laptop I'm going to buy at Notebook Review and study there weak points, that forum as served me well. I'm also encoding with most of the with cores running 95/100% a lot of the time, I like the Samsung, it's got the best screen available on a laptop, but it's reliability is variable at the moment and it runs extremely hot and is therefore noisy, but then most gamers are. I'm keeping my eye on it see if they iron out the problems, looks promising at this point. I'm not a gamer these days but I like the power and it's nice if you can do a bit of over-clocking on them as well. Last edited by PommieB : 06-17-2012 at 02:25 AM. |

Because on paper it tickles my fancy so much, I ordered it. Hopefully it isn't too good to be true. |
