Random single click noise
Additional Comment: hmmm nvm, did some research, seems its a known issue over on seagate forums that affects 1tb platters. Seems that the newest firmware helps which mine already has so /shrug Last edited by leekirlew : 06-17-2012 at 01:08 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost |

Bad luck, hardwares a lottery these days, bought a reasonably priced aircompressor to keep in the car, the battery leads were the wrong way round, red was earth and black was power, did two fuses before I figured that one out.

Good to see you found your issue.
As long as it's not constant clicking, you're alright. |

ye its just random, and its the sort of noise ive experienced before on unstable pcs just before they reboot. Ive read that its to do with APM and it being used as a storage drive, its basically waking itself up. Can be disabled through crystaldisk but has to be done every boot

It's the head returning to the landing zone and then resuming without the drive parking.
Check your power management and do a double check of of the Hard Disk setting and just make sure you're in high performance mode so your HD isn't being turned off after 20 minutes. I've had the issue with 2 different 500GB Seagate drives. Both died and had to be RMA'd, so I'd guess it isn't the healthiest thing for the drive to be doing. Also make sure you have chipset drivers installed and the latest version of RAID drivers if you have the drives in an array. This also helped my drives stop doing it as well. They usually didn't start doing it until the PC had been on for a few days, which makes be believe this is first and foremost a compatibility problem with Windows 7 64 bit and Seagate hardware. |
