Newegg Intentionally Damaging Motherboards?

I stumbled on this thread at another forum about Newegg claiming "bent pins" on motherboard returns to avoid paying for the return. Their ResellerRating has started slipping, because of this. Have any EOCFers experienced this recently?

It's not the first time Ive heard about that, and tbh it's so easy to do, it doesn't surprise me at all.

Now, whether it's Newegg's intentions as a whole, or the work of a couple dumb****s in the RMA dept., we'll never know.

I wish there was an easier way to (dis)prove fault on these things.

Record yourself building the pc and tearing it down. That way you have video proof. Then if they give you crap threaten to sue because you have video evidence.

Wow, IF that's true, that would suck...

In general though, their support has rapidly declined. I handle the Newegg business account at work and customer service is a joke. This is ESPECIALLY frustrating considering I can DRIVE to Newegg and all my reps are local. THERE ARE nice, competent people there, but in general it sucks having to deal with them, especially now since their game is 'pass the buck'.

YES, YOU Doreena R. Ines. Your attitude and lack of customer service is some of the worst I have ever dealt with. I hope you Google your name and read this.

Well then. I just had to create an account to post here that this just happened to me. :|

Just got an e-mail from newegg refusing to accept my RMA motherboard because of "bent pins." I stared at that thing at least a dozen times to make sure they weren't bent, before putting my cpu in and before shipping it back off to newegg.

They will be getting a not so nice phone call once I get home tonight. I honestly feel sorry for whoever picks up my call. I will get my money back out of them >=|

Also, I went ahead and bought the same exact motherboard again from them since they couldn't do a RMA. It didn't work either! I'll be sure to take pictures of those pins this time before shipping it back off to them. Might even toss it in the return box for them so they don't even think about doing it.

Pics before you send, pics of how it was packed. IF it shipped without bent pins, was well packed, and you can prove it, responsibility falls on the shipper. File a UPS claim. They CAN bend cpu socket pins without damaging the box, they are that good.

http://snapshotstudios.net/bentpin.jpg <---Point out the bent pins please. I know it's not the best pic (woo for cell phones with sucky lighting.) I'm waiting to get it back so I can take a picture of what it looks like now and e-mail it to newegg. >=[

FWIW, I had a similar experience with Newegg. In my case, it was a $800 4p board. It's hard to prove who damaged the board. Their online support couldn't tell me which socket was damaged which was important considering it had 4 and I only used 2. After about 1 1/2 weeks, I got the board back with damage.

I'm sure it was theoretically possible for me to do massive damage to the pins without noticing it...I just feel it is unlikely considering I've changed and installed lots of Opteron CPUs before and since.

In case you are wondering, I paid Tyan $150 to fix the boards two sockets. It stinks, but I had no use for $3500 paperweight. BTW, Tyan support seemed to think it was strange that Newegg didn't warranty the board.

At the end of the day, it's the price we pay for building our own pcs using discount components. I've still saved way more by buying from Newegg than it would cost if I bought a Dell or HP server! So, I'm still a Newegg customer, but I won't buy another Server board from them. I've had 3 bad ones of two different brands so far.

Curiously, I've never received a bad desktop board from them including open boxes.

And if Newegg were going to do something shady to void a warranty on a motherboard, one would think it would make the most sense to damage the most expensive boards to reduce how much money they are losing from replacing products.

In all honesty, I'm actually more perplexed at the sheer number of bad motherboards people have received from them. That's a lot of people with dead boards in a short time frame, what exactly is going on here?

WOW after reading this I guess I wasn't the only one. I bought an Asus mobo and it wouldn't post. Sent it back to Newegg and was told that there were bent pins. Mobo was sent back to me but I called my cc and got my money back. I can't purchase anything from Newegg anymore as my account is now suspended. There's definitely something fishy going on... Oh well there are better sellers out there...
