One of my usb ports stopped working

one of 4 usb ports on my desktop stopped working. The device(speaker) gets power, but does not function. If I connect it to other usb ports, it works. Also, usb port on the same hub(2 usb ports on 1 hub) works fine. Nothing happens when I unplug and plug a device back in, etc.

Please help!!

Do other devices work when you plug them into that port?

no, none of my devices work from that port. I know there's power flowing through it since my speaker has a power light and the light is on when it's connected to it.

At a guess, I'd say the port is physically broken. The data and power wires are different, so although it may output power, the data might be broken.

When did it start happening, you could try a recovery to a date just prior to it happening, but as mind reader 7 says, most likely a broken data wire in the socket or a cold solder joint that as parted, you've got to be careful with usb wires, if the data and the power come in contact the short can damage the motherboard, if you can't get to work, might be a good idea to disconnect it internally. Choice is yours.

If I may

throw my 5c here. It would be old news that some contacts on the port wore out and are not making good contact, Gently squeezing metal around the mouth of the port so a device could fit tighter should at least temporally fix that. As all the USB ports of the same kind are connected to the same controller problem could be only physical contact. There are no settings either in BIOS or windows that can control just one USB connector so if my medicine doesn't fix it you can kiss it goodby. In that case get an external hub or extension cord, plug it in an working port and presto !!!
