Are PC P&C PSUs still good after being produced by OCZ?

I was surprised when I saw the PC P&C Silencer MkIII units (400, 500 and 600W) with pretty good specs, at least when it comes to the +12V rails, efficiency, and the fact that they are modular, plus the prices seem fairly low.

Review sites have stated that the Silencer MkIII units are quite good. But: OCZ PSUs are not what one would call high end or industrial quality, so my question: Are they really good units or should I rather go for Corsair here? The guys over at Hardforum were not very impressed by the MkII, so that might be a downside.

edit: Just gonna list some alternatives for the same price and amps as the 500W unit: Antec HGC-520, Corsair GS500, XFX 550W ($10 more) or for a few amps and $10 less the Silverstone Strider Essential 500W. The Silverstone does have enough power for the system (i5 ivy, HD6850) so that could be the best buy of those.

My ocz PSU kicks major booty. They make some awesome units and some not so awesome ones too. Johnny Guru will have more info.

The 1kw version of the ZX was tested at 120% load and survived.

Additional Comment:

Also the zx series is like >92% efficient.

Hi Folks,

Installed a new Antec 850W True Power Quattro power supply into my i7 running 990x Cpu,Noctura NH-D14 Heatsink and Corsair Dominator ram...Went well for 3 weeks then started shutting down my computer intermittently.To-day it threw a tantrum and kept shutting down the computer and then died...I had an old 650W Coolermaster p/Supply here so installed it and the computer fired up and ran fine.
Installed the Antec p/supply into an old duo Core computer to test and has been running fine for 5 hours.....Anyone have any suggestions PLEASE.

Has anyone had a bad experince with Corsair HX-850W power supplies ????? Searching for a replacement for this Antec should it be stuffed..

Thanks,
Ronald

To be blunt, PCP&C is still a good company. Under OCZ they have dropped prices, added features, and expanded their product line. This was necessary if they wanted PCP&C to remain competitive. All of the top PSU brands now sell a wide variety of premium quality units, so PCP&C was no longer unique in that respect. Of course I would not expect budget Mark III units to be as durable as their top of the line models, but they should be a quality match for any competitive model. Give one a try.

On a side note - I am digging that the new units have large 120mm cooling fans and modular cables. No more marketing built around fear, uncertainty, and deception.

My old rig has an MKII that was rock solid, and my current rig has the ZX line.

PCP&C or ZX line > Great PSU's

Great, thanks for the feedback, I'm gonna give the PC P&C a try - the optical appeal is a big plus because it is going to go into a white case (NZXT Phantom)

Customer support is a horrible joke with this company. I remember when I phoned for a bad psu the girl was chewing gum.
