Random tips

So, a couple of questions,

I've managed to crank my Q9550 to 3.6Ghz, can't seem to get it faster.

I've bought an extra 4GB of DDR3-1600, total is now 8GB

and I've disabled all unneeded startup programs and services.

So so far, windows is quite snappy, nice and fast, but I'm still trying to get more "snappiness" out of this system. Any tips? I am SO CLOSE to buying an SSD at the moment, just to get the extra bit of speed.

Don't really have the cash for a 256GB SSD at the moment, was thinking more 64GB.

If you've OCed the Q9550 and tweaked the OS, theres not much more else to do other than jump on the SSD ship. Or crank the CPU OC higher... my E8500 at 4.3 is hella fast considering its age

My cooling is excellent, never go over 48C under load... but for the life of me I can't get past 3.6. I've spent hours trying to crack this. PLus, my BIOS isn't the most amazing ever :/ It's a bit limited when it comes to options. Board is MSI P45-C51.

Witchdoctor, thanks!

Ahh man I just sold my P5Q-Pro ....... if I would have know I would of gave you a heads up.

That board will be limited, especially with a quad, could try to hop up the NB cooling and see what you can get

lower your multi and find out what your top FSB

Even if you can't run any faster the system will have more snap to it at max FSB and lowering the multi

450 x 8 = 3600

480 x 7.5 = 3600

and so on

Then you can even try to get a bit more, sounds like you have room, But a better board would be ideal

I've tried that. Upped the NB volts to 1.24 max, changed the TIM on the NB heatsink, strapped 2 60mm fans to the heatsink, its nice and cold. Temperature isn't an issue for me. What seems to be an issue is the RAM ratios and voltages. Can't seem to get them right.

Will try get a better board, but I think SSD would be a better buy at the moment :/

Hi there FX....still living in Namibia? It's been a while.

You're correct about the SSD. It is the best bang for your buck these days. Nothing will give you the satisfaction for your dollar like an SSD.

Once you've gotten used to one, going back to a spinner, would be like going back to Dial-Up, after you've had cable broadband.

Good luck with what ever you decide to do. And, the answer is no, I am still using the GTX 280.

DOLSHINA!!! Why... It has my NAME ON IT!

And, I've moved to Europe, Namibia was killing my soul. It's great for vacations, but to live there, is kind of horrible.

No worries, "Traceur" is written clearly on the side, but my son is using it in his computer that I built for him some time ago.

Where in Europe did you land? Spoken to Jack lately?

Poland, next to Germany.

Spoke to Jack a while back, but I keep forgetting to reinstall yahoo messenger, so don't get to talk to him that much. He's still doing well though, from what I hear.

That's great! Glad to hear it. Sorry for the OT.
