running a core 2 duo on an intel d945gbo

So I'm trying to build a nice media center pc out of parts I have left over. I'm wondering if anyone's tried a core 2 duo (e6550) on a d945gbo mobo? The sockets match, but on the intel sites it doesn't say if the 2 are compatible. What should I look for to find out if they'll work together?

That board does not support Core 2 processors.

Nope not supported.I think the 965 chipset is where support started and maybe 1 945 revision did but I can't find the revision number right now..

Your best bet is to find a PENTIUM-D dualcore cpu.
