ASUS HD7970-DC2-3GD5 Radeon HD 7970 3GB

Running a 2560x1600 HP ZR30w. Looking for a single card solution. Eyefinity is behind me now since I like the productivity of the 30 inch which would require multi-card solutions if I want a 3x30" group.

ASUS HD7970-Direct CU II -3GD5 - NonTOP version. I figured the only difference was the higher GPU OC... easily done in CCC I would assume, save $30.



What comments do you have on this card? Such mixed reviews on Newegg. Compared to a 670GTX 4GB, worth crossing over to the green side?

Ok, no comments or suggestions. Reviews and feedback from other sites indicate more DOA issues with the Asus 7970 DC2 than I feel comfortable with. Gonna look into getting a single:

i bought the dc2 7970 its a great card. but if you buy one id either buy another 7970 or the top version if you want to overclock. i researched it alot but not enough to find out its hardware locked for voltage 1.060mv is max. ive been using mine a month now and the only issues ive had were a few driver hiccups and the voltage lock on the hardware. other than that its really a great card far more powerful than any nvidia card for GPGPU apps.

Just as a FYI, the DirectCUII cannot manage to dump the heat outside the case, and instead sinks all your components in heat. The cooler works extremely well if you happen to have an open bench or excellent airflow. It is a bit on the noisy side but you will have great temps, assuming you can move the heat inside the case without heatsinking your CPU.

However, it ONLY holds by the four GPU screws. Unless they updated their design since the GTX560 Ti 448. This will mean insane board flex, and possible issues from solder cracking and all-around stress. Ive read cases of GPU suddenly BSOD'ing when not supporting the card. Might want to take that in mind. I had to solidly fix my friend's card (previously mentioned GTX560) to the chassis so it doesn't move anymore. But the lack of airflow manages to heat sink the whole case in a matter of a few minutes of stress test.

AMD has done nothing to maintain your business, the 7K series while an insane card has struggled with driver issues one after the other. Had two sold with in weeks of getting them

Not sure why you look to those triple slot monsters, ultimately they are not a very good option for anything, wish Asus would get off of them already.

The EVGA reference design you linked would be ideal IMO

Here's another 7970 to consider.

Got my Sapphire OC Edtion for $479.00 to the door.
And thier a little cheaper now I think.

And very good clocker and Air cooling.
Had issues with drivers dropping out and now running 12.7 Betas and no problems. Yet! lol.
2 1/2 Slot card though but will also take a block even though
a Non Ref card.

Still holding off on a card... 670FTW 2gb or 4gb would be a great choice considering all the driver issues I've been hearing about with the 7970. At this moment, just chugging along with my single 5870 until I need to upgrade. Since I'm running non-eyefinity recently, have all the power I need. If I can hold out until 4th quarter, the 7xx gtx or the 8970 maybe an option if my gaming struggles.

Only triple slot cooler worth your attention is if it's wielding an Artic Xtreme Plus, considering that thing can even tame the inferno known as the GTX 480.

I love my MSI 7970 - not a single issue. Run mine at 950mhz undervolted to 1.05V from 1.175 and it runs very cool, very quiet, vents heat outside the case. If i was a gamer, id look at the 7950 , i think they are bang for the buck $319 after rebate and when overclocked perform pretty close to the 7970.
