Ethernet 100 Mbit/s duplex should yield like 16 Mb/sec throughput idealy.
USB 1.1 is about 1 to 12 Mbit/s, which is very **slow. USB 2.0 is about 480 Mbit/s, about 35 Mb/sec **at max. USB 3.0 is about 5 Gbit/s, about 625Mb/sec **at max. The trouble is, USB signal is very poor, but speed reduces a lot from simple things like a cell phone, or sneezing, or made in china. Maximum USB cable distance for SHIELDED cable is 5 meters, where Ethernet CAT 5/5e/6 UTP (UNSHIELDED) is about 100 meters. Ethernet SHIELDED is about 300 meters... So really, you might be OK with USB 3.0 if you have that option. |

![]() A nice way to get decent performance is to use a powered DC hub if you know you will be at a desk for a while. USB can get pretty chattery with other devices on the same port. |
