Is there anywhere that lists what works with what cards? I googled but only found an old thread from OCN that didn't really give any specifics.

You can always verify with EK but the reference card you picked out would be my choice personally for water block and unlocking.

Ya that card keeps going out of stock about every three days and I'm about $40 short on cash right now but hopefully it will still be around next week when I'm ready. That looks like the last Ref card avble for 6950 on the Egg.

I tried to unlock my MSI 6950 Twin Frozer II / oc with AtiWinFlash, but after performing the procedure using the firmware for the 6970 and restarted the computer, the screen stays black!

I moved the 6950 on the secondary pcie, put on the 8800GT pcie primary. The PC starts well, the 6950 is detected with "shader 1563 880MHz GPU clock," but does not work.

If I try to load the old firmware with atiwinflash I get error "mismatch subsystemIDs".

What can I do?

Please help me!!

I have the exact the same card and bios as you have, but unfortunately no luck for me with unlocked shaders.

Can you just move the switch towards the DVI cable and start as normal with original bios?

Thank you for your help. You bios didn't help me either, the flash was successfull but the amount of shaders didn't change, I guess I'm just unlucky.

Does your card have the bios switch? Try uninstalling drivers, then moving the switch, then reboot, and install drivers, and see if it helps...

Yes the switch is there, the card is identical to the one above, with different bios. It's impossible to flash until the switch is in the right position, so I believe it does work, but doesn't help me at all. I flashed it back with my original bios as it was unable to overclock the core over 830 where is I run 870, using just the ATI drivers O/C tool.

I turned the switch before I installed the card in the PC and before the installation of any drivers at all, also tried it in different windows, so it's not a software problem for sure.

I unlocked my MSI Twin Frzr III 2GB card using Atiflash on a bootable USB drive. I used the BIOS that MSI made specifically for the card, which I would think would be key in unlocking the shaders and OCing.

Currently OCed at 900/1325 on stock voltage.

So far so good. I played Anno 2070 on max settings for about 3 hours earlier.

Hello folks! Sadly I seem to have a dead card here , looking for any help you can give!!

It's an ASUS HD 6950 DirectCU II 1GB model , which I recently tried to flash with a 6970 BIOS .. now I get a blank screen although I can hear win 7 booting up just fine in the background.

I've put another card in the first PCI-e slot and the 6970 in the second and the machine boots up OK , but the card is still not recognised.

I can boot with a USB stick with ATIFLASH and the original BIOS on it , but I get the 'Adaptor not recognised' and '0FL01' messages!

I'm looking at trying out this 'hard-mod' next to see what happens , meanwhile are there any other tricks I can try??

Oh , and this card has a tiny switch on it near the XFire connectors but it's for toggling the first DVI connector from single to dual , not a BIOS switch sadly!

Thanks for any help folks!!

Additional Comment:

Well , it looks like I've sorted it myself!

It seems it was something to do with the tiny switch after all , I put the 6950 backinto the first slot , I switched it to single DVI mode and booted up into windows to my amazement as if nothing had happened.

Up to this point I had been switching monitors around since I normally use a Shimian Lite which is only Dual DVI input ... sooo back to single DVI with an old monitor , re-boot with USB and all was good for an ATIFLASH back to the original BIOS.

At first it wouldn't work (blank screen ... ) but I remembered reading somewhere that un-installing and re-installing drivers might be the way to go , and well I'm blessed , so it was!!

I hope this helps out anybody else having problems out there ... as for me , I think that may be the end of my 'more shaders' experiments ...

Bye for now ...
