How do you test Tx/Rx WiFi speeds?

What program would I use to send a file from one PC to another device, like a PC to a Motorola XOOM on the network, and see what the actual througput is in different areas of the house? I have an android "Wifi Analyzer", but that just shows me Db loss, not true throughput transferring a file. I realize I'll be limited by read/write speeds.

I just bought a Netgear R6300, and I want to see how close to 1.3Gigabit on the 5G channels I can actually get. I know it will be far less, but I want to compare it to my E4200v1 w/ DD-WRT. On this PC, one reason I ought the router, I have SSDs and want to utilize the 120Mhz channel width on 5Ghz, my XOOM is the only thing with 5G, bit I think I'll bridge my NG WNDR4000, so I'm not bottlemecked by a USB adapter.
