Better off buying two sets of these
Run three on your X58 and use the forth on your upgrade. They will clock to 2400+mhz 10-12-12 timings with SB/IB and should do ~1600mhz 7-7-7 timings -~1866mhz 8-8-8 timings - ~2000mhz 9-9-9 timings on X58. |

It will work, but you won't be running triple channel like ZJ mentioned.

thanks for the quick replies. I realize my board isn't quad channel, the 4th ram stick would be set aside for future uses.

I can tell ya I just installed a quad channel Dominator GT mem kit on an X79 build I was building for a friend. enabld XMP and it loaded right up to its 2133 profile. No issues at all, all timings spot on. It was this kit: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product...82E16820233230

Major pro for the samsungs are the low profile design. Now i can finally put side fans on my Scythe2 CPU heat sink.

What I don't understand. I know 1366 is triple channel, but if you install 3 sticks of a 4-stick kit, it should still run in 3 channel yes?

Im curious. What would happen if you indeed put the 4th stick in. Is there that much difference between "regular" and triple channel??
Dont wanna mess up anything in my system so Im not willing to test it out. |

The memory performance will be different (obviously), but beside memory intensive programs, you likely won't see differences. |

In my previous rig (i5 750, P55A-UD4P), I was using 2x2GB in single channel (instead of dual channel) due to faulty DIMM slots. Saw no performance increase at all the day they started working again when I changed the RAM in there... |

Wish it actually ran in dual with 4 sticks as performance would be better. |

Attachment was taken from X58A-UD3R's manual. Id guess that most companies would work the same way as Gigabyte as this seems more like an architecture design than a private one from Gigabyte/eVGA/ASUS/etc. |

Cpuz will report tri in a 4 stick config. and windows will allocate the extra stick as hardware reserve. It may work but havent experienced true 4 stick dual channel on X58's yet. |

Yeah, it still runs in triple channel, just when you start addressing that 4th DIMM, performance gets all wacky.

I have the new Samsungs installed. A lot more "low profile" than i thought they were going to be which is great. My CPU fans can now sit over top of them.
Hard to take an installed picture Ignore the dust...my rig is getting a cleaning when my new GPU arrives.
