CPU temp all over

Is it normal for my CPU temp to be jumping around from 27 to 37 while sitting idle? When I do burn test it will almost instantly jump up to 70 , then it reads around 55 and straight back into the 70's all in a matter of seconds. It doesn't slowly work its way to a temp,it just jumps. Currently I have the Corsair h50 on there. Core i5 3570k by the way.

Is this with AIDA64, HWMonitor, or something else?

What type of Tim? How and when was it applied? Are you overclocking? The H50 is usually beaten by most decent air coolers... its fine for some stock setups but I wouldn't try to overclock too much and expect good temps with it.

I used As5, I just put a little on and used a card to attempt to spread it evenly. Is it that it isn't making contact or something? I can understand the temp getting hot but jumping around 30 degrees up and down in seconds seemed strange.

Would a Cooler master 212 evo do me good? I mean for a small budget cooler.

That is a decent cooler at a good price!

It sounds like you applied the tim appropriately, so I would remove it, clean it and re install the TIM and the cooler. See if that makes any difference.

I agree 30*c jump instantly is either because of a bad mount or a fault in the software.

I just reapplied the As5, looking at it I think the backplate might have got at an angle and not allowed equal pressure.. Gonna see what happens with it this time. Regardless I ordered that 212 Evo today so will get that Wednesday

I wasnt trying to knock on the H50... but like I said a decent air cooler will hang with it pretty easily.

These chips are hotter than the older ones. Cooling is a must. I do believe that the IHS plate is not soldered on. It would be interesting to see some one pop the top and re tim the plate.

If these i5's and 7's aren't soldered, I don't see why no ones doing this. So many better thermal pastes than the stuff they use under the lid.

Not to discourage but I have always been told that new technology corrupted the world... Why ?????

I suggest going to a professional. They can find the problem instantly

No the IHS is not soldered on. It's just stuffed with some tim. Makes for easy delidding

How does the H50 block mount to the board? I've seen improper (uneven) torque cause erratic temperatures. More a problem in DeltaT and difference between cores... maybe that is an issue?
